PRODUCTIONS At 12, Francis started writing, recording, and performing. At 18, he enrolled as a Literature and World Religions major at Messiah College near Harrisburg, PA. There he immersed himself in the classics of poetry and prose, honing his craft as a songwriter. During these years, John played guitar for Gospel band on Sunday mornings. After graduating, Francis traveled to Ireland where the musical traditions of his family homeland added more fuel to the fire. He made his home on the road for a few years, collecting songs from Appalachia to American-Indian reservations While living in Philadelphia, Francis released the critically acclaimed "Strong Wine & Spirits". With the single "Heavy, Heavy Love", the record garnered extensive radio play in the North East. Drawing on the deep waters of Rock n roll, Folk, Country, and Gospel music, Francis conjures the spirits of his eloquent brand of songwriting. Francis was honored by ASCAP as the recipient two national lyricist awards. The prestigious Sammy Cahn Lyricist Award, for his song "Love Came to Me Dressed in Red". (Previous winners include John Mayer and Josh Ritter.) And recently he received the Jay Gorney Award for socially conscious lyrics for his poignant song, "Who?" Written by Ray Davies, "Days", a song originally released by The Kinks as a single in 1966 is a simple yet poignant masterpiece; this tribute to the late Kirsty Anna MacColl (10 October 1959 -- 18 December 2000), an English singer-songwriter, is of fair use pursuant to 17 USC section 107 for nonprofit, educational and only the most respectful purposes incorporated herein. Kirsty MacColl covered "Days" on her brilliant 1989 album, Kite. Days was released by Kirsty as a single and it reached #12 on the UK singles chart, the same position which it had achieved by The Kinks in 1969 (on its second release). Kirsty's single, "They Don't Know About Us," became a pivotal single for comedian/actress/singer, Tracy Ullman, but failed to showcase Kirsty as a viable artist. Kirsty MacColl was renown for her vocal faculties which graced many a collaborative effort on recordings by her husband, veteran producer, Steve Lillywhite. One well-known collaboration of hers was with The Pogues on their album, "If I Should Fall From Grace With God."
