Cabaret Voltaire were a British music group from Sheffield, England Initially composed of Stephen Mallinder, Richard H. Kirk and Chris Watson, the group was named after the Cabaret Voltaire, a nightclub in Zurich, Switzerland that was a center for the early Dada movement. Their earliest performances were dada-influenced performance art, but Cabaret Voltaire later developed into one of the most prolific and important groups to blend pop with dance music, techno, dub house and experimental electronic music. Os Cabaret Voltaire foram uma banda britânica de música industrial e experimental, criada em 1974, na cidade de Sheffield, por Richard H. Kirk (guitarra), Stephen Mallinder (baixo) e Chris Watson (efeitos especiais). O seu nome tem origem do clube suíço Cabaret Voltaire, um espaço de cultura dadaísta. Tal como a origem do seu nome, a banda também era influenciada por aquele movimento artístico, dando-lhes uma postura em palco que juntava a música a actos teatrais. No início, o estilo musical da banda era marcado por influências punk junto com samples. A partir de 1983, já sem Chris Watson, que tinha deixado o grupo, eo som dos Cabaret Voltaire torna-se menos agressivo, e mais dançavel.
