Buddy Moss - Four Songs From 1963 : TopVideos.com.br Buddy Moss - Four Songs From 1963

The legendary guitarist and harmonica player Eugene Buddy Moss is easily among the best of the Piedmont/east coast style bluesmen, with an astounding body of work consisting of poorly preserved/restored pre-war recordings and a few recordings from his carreer during the "revival" era which have barely been paid attention to, with the claim being that he was apparently too contentious and difficult to get along with. The following 4 songs were recorded in Atlanta in 1963 by some dude named George Mitchelle, his vocals are slightly less refined, but the performance no less impressive than when in his prime. The songs are "Untitled Instrumental No 1", "Hey Lawdy Mamma", "In The Evening" and "A Thousand Women Blues". + Informações

This Buddy Moss song is an all time favourite and a dream learning it little by little on the guitar. Is a great example of the 8 bar song but with a 12 bar solo and intro. The singing is similar to other Georgia blues songs like Curley Weaver ticket agent or Blind Willie McTell lord send me an angel. But Buddy Moss original way of singing the verses and his guitar arrangement makes this song really a great masterpiece in countryblues.. + Informações

DEDICATED TO MY EX!!! For his final ARC sessions, Moss returned to New York City in August 1935. Josh White, a fine country blues performer originally from South Carolina, joined him in the studio. In all, Moss recorded seven issued 78s. He played solo on some songs, including his popular "Going to Your Funeral in a Vee Eight Ford," while others featured Josh White's accompaniment. Moss, in turn, played second guitar for White, who played spirituals that came out credited to "Joshua White (The Singing Christian)." Moss later reported that his usual pay of five dollars per side was raised to ten dollars for the 1935 session, regardless of his status as leader or sideman. In a 1972 interview with Valerie Wilmer, Moss said that his best songs "financially" were 1933's "When I'm Dead and Gone" and 1935's "Going to Your Funeral in a Vee Eight Ford." Moss added, "I'd say that 'round in the '30s, it was grand for me, but it was tough on other peoples.". + Informações

My take at a great slide piece by Blind Willie McTell. I also show some rare photo's that were published in the booklet accompagning an album with previous lost recordings by McTell, Curley Weaver and Buddy Moss (1979 JEMF-106). The booklet with 29 pages has the size of an lp and contains the photo's, a very detailed biography of McTell by David Evans and Bruce Bastin and all the lyrics to the songs. The photo's in order of appearance show : 1- inside cover of the Atlanta 12-string album, recordings of 1949 - McTell at the beginning and end of his long career. 2- the cover of the booklet with photo's of McTell, Curly Weaver and Buddy Moss 3- McTell and his wife Kate in 1930 4- McTell recording in an Atlanta hotel room 1940 (Library of Congress John A Lomax) 5- McTell and his wife Helen 1950 - note the unusual playing position 6-7-8-9 McTell around 1950 I'm in open D, tuned down to B Willie always wore a cap so I couldn't wear a hat on this one ;) check out my new slidelesson dvd available at www.youtuberecords.com. + Informações

I'M A RATTLESNAKIN' DADDY (1935) by Blind Boy Fuller : TopVideos.com.br I'M A RATTLESNAKIN' DADDY (1935) by Blind Boy Fuller

This song was recorded in New York in 1935 by Blind Boy Fuller (1907-1941), and was amongst his first recordings. Fuller was one of the most popular of the recorded Piedmont blues artists with rural Black Americans, a group that also included Blind Blake, Josh White, and Buddy Moss. Blind Boy Fuller was also an incredible fingerpicking guitar player (apparently influenced by Blind Blake and Rev Gary Davis), as well as being a great singer. He would rip notes from his resonator guitar, fingerpicking in a hard edged rocking style that complemented his vibrant vocals. There are probably better examples of his sophisticated guitar style than this song, but I love it because it sounds like the beginnings of fifties 12-bar rock. Even ol' Hank could've done a version of this (in fact many of his songs sound similar). Obviously there are no clips of Fuller available; in fact I could find only three images of him. I have cropped, reversed, and manipulated those images to make them seem like a lot more, and have put them in a slideshow (along with some other photos). Comments are invited.. + Informações

Hi Folks, This is my version of a blues song by James "Curley" Weaver who was an Atlanta guitarist and singer who played with most of the musicians in the Atlanta blues scene. Curley was born in Newton County Georgia in 1906 to Jim and Savannah Weaver. According to Curley, his mother taught him several good songs. Interestingly, Weaver recorded only secular music, although Savannah, known as "Dip", played guitar and piano in church. By the age of ten, Weaver was already playing guitar; occasionally he would play with the older Hicks brothers, Robert and Charlie, who were learning the instrument from his mother. Weaver was learning from many Newton County musicians, though, including Judge (or Judd) Smith, Nehemiah Smith, Blind Buddy Keith, Charlie Jackson, and Harry Johnson. (According to Curley's longtime friend Roy Dunn, Nehemiah Smith had the largest influence on his sound.) Curley was a friendly, outgoing person and formed a tight circle of musical friends with the Hicks brothers and harmonica wizard Eddie Mapp. In 1925, Weaver and Mapp moved to Atlanta, hooking up with the Hicks brothers again, who had come to the city earlier. Here Weaver became an integral part of the blues scene, connecting with the other Atlanta musicians with whom he associated. Weaver's first break came in 1928, thanks to his old Newton County friend, Robert Hicks. Now known as Barbecue Bob, Hicks was one of Columbia's biggest blues stars. Hicks arranged for Curley to record in October of 1928 .... + Informações
