Night Train By Buddy Morrow 3.30 min. | 4.822222 avaliação | 15458 exibições Buddy Morrow is an American trombonist and bandleader frequently associated with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. He is known for his mastery of the upper range which is evident in records such as "The Golden Trombone." Morrow was once a member of the Tonight Show orchestra. His early 1950s records such as "Rose, Rose, I Love You" and "Night Train" rode the Billboard's national charts. Jimmy Forrest recorded the original version of "Night Train" in 1952 which was a #1 R&B hit. Buddy Morrow's version reached #27 on the charts, also in 1952, and features a classic trombone solo by Buddy Morrow himself. Although it didn't chart as high, Morrow's version remained a popular item on jukeboxes well into the mid 60s. The bump and grind tempo of this selection made it a staple for strip club performers.. + Informações |

The Freddy Martin Show with Merv Griffin [ musical comedy ] 1951 ( Part 3 of 3 ) 8.60 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 5628 exibições Barclay Allen's accident happened in 1949 [8:15], so this is? a 1951 broadcast. Allen lived to the age of 48, passing away in Del Mar, California on December 7, 1966. Merv Griffin sings I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts The Freddy Martin Show with Merv Griffin : 1951 ( Part 3 of 3 ) Later career Martin also had a good ear for singers. At one time or another, Martin employed Merv Griffin, Buddy Clark, Terry Shand (also a pianist), Elmer Feldkamp (also a saxophonist), Stuart Wade (his most impressive male singer), Eddie Stone (also a violinist), and many others. Helen Ward was a singer for Martin just before she joined Benny Goodman's new band. Ironically, as far as I know of, she was the only female singer to have appeared with Martin's band, recording two sides of a 78 in early 1934 with Freddy using the alias "Ed Loyd." A popular bandleader, Martins popularity led him to Hollywood and during the 1940s, he and his band appeared in a handful of films, including Seven Days' Leave (1942), Stage Door Canteen (1943) and Melody Time (1948), among others. Freddy Martin gave a start to a young vocalist, Merv Griffin. In the 1950s and 1960s, Martin continued to perform on the radio and also appeared on TV. Untroubled by changing musical tastes, he continued to work at major venues and was musical director for Elvis Presleys first appearance in Las Vegas. Still in demand for hotel work, Martin entered the 1970s with an engagement at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. In the .... + Informações |

Night Train - Roy Ingram's Jazz & Blues Band 5.58 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 31005 exibições Night Train - Played by Roy Ingram's Jazz & Blues Band - A UK Midlands Jazz & Blues Band - Jazz @ The Westwood - A 'MidNiteSun' Music Video 2008 - www.midnitesun.co.uk - From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Origins and development. "Night Train" has a long and complicated history. The piece's opening riff was first recorded in 1940 by a small group led by Duke Ellington sideman Johnny Hodges under the title "That's the Blues, Old Man". Ellington used the same riff as the opening and closing theme of a longer-form composition, "Happy-Go-Lucky Local", that was itself one of four parts of his Deep South Suite. Forrest was part of Ellington's band when it performed this composition, which has a long tenor saxophone break in the middle. After leaving Ellington, Forrest recorded "Night Train" on United Records and had a major rhythm & blues hit. While "Night Train" employs the same riff as the earlier recordings, it is used in a much earthier R&B setting. Forrest inserted his own solo over a stop-time rhythm not used in the Ellington composition. He put his own stamp on the tune, but its relation to the earlier composition is obvious. Like Illinois Jacquet's solo on "Flying Home", Forrest's original saxophone solo on "Night Train" became a veritable part of the composition, and is usually recreated in cover versions by other performers. Buddy Morrow's trombone solo chorus from his recording of the tune is similarly incorporated into many performances. Lyrics. Several .... + Informações |
