From the time he was a teenager, Brian Ray has played with some of the biggest legends in the history of pop music. After an early stint with "Monster Mash" star Bobby "Boris" Pickett, he became the musical director for Etta James. He later toured and recorded with such artists as Peter Frampton, Rita Coolidge and Nicolette Larson, and even wrote a hit song for Smokey Robinson. In 2002, Ray joined Paul McCartney's band just in time for Macca's Super Bowl XXXIX performance. For nearly a decade now, Ray has shared the stage with the former Beatle, lending his formidable guitar, bass and singing skills to one of the most talented bands on Earth. Ray has also launched a solo career in the past decade, first with his 2006 release, Mondo Magneto, and last year with the follow-up, This Way Up. Hey, everybody! Here's my music video for "Very Happy Song" from my second solo CD, "This Way Up". This song was written in response to a dear friend asking for me to write a happy song.. I told her I don't like happy art, that all good art comes from struggle, pain, alienation or heartache. I thought about it and decided to write one anyway. In fact she inspired the tone of the whole album to be more positive in tempo and lyric and I'm grateful for that, but I couldn't help but write a sardonic and sarcastic lyric for this one, given the times we are in today. When the #occupy movement started out with less than 100 protesters in Zuccotti Park, it resonated for me as a musician who struggled to make a living for most of my adult life. I have been plugged in to politics since I was a kid and now realize I'm a total political geek! On a recent trip to NYC, I grabbed a cab to see the burgeoning protest at Zuccotti for myself and sang along to my song while walking thru the occupy camp. Brian French at Tempo Entertainment cut together the footage along with protest scenes from all over the USA. IMHO, there is nothing wrong with success, wealth and capitalism, it is only the perversion of capitalism at the hands of our elected officials, with bank deregulation which has led to this fissure in the center of our country with huge income disparity. The less advantaged see their chances at the American dream dissolving in front of their eyes, while the rich have watched their .... + Informações

This is the video for my single, "Under The Sun" featuring rare live footage of the recording session with me on vocals and guitars, Abe Laboriel, Jr. on drums and percussion, Davey Faragher on bass and Adam MacDougal on Wurlitzer and Hammond B3. This is THE take of the recording of the song off my album, 'This Way Up'. The Solos were recorded live as well, only a few overdubs including lead vocal were needed. The song was written by me in about 30 minutes.. I love when that happens! The arrangement and sound is a result of real players in a real studio with a real engineer playing together at the same time. What a concept! Brian French from Tempo Entertainment filmed the daytime exterior footage with me and Emma Hanley playing around on the pier and beaches of Santa Monica, Calif.
