this is just for my music class Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) Brahms' father, Johann Jakob Brahms, came to Hamburg from Dithmarschen, looking for a job as the town musician. His father could play many instruments, but mostly played the horn and double bass. Jakob married Johanna Henrika Christiane Nissen in 1830. Brahms' usually was given lessons from his father, and then at the age of seven was given lessons by Otto Friedrich Willibald Cossel. He started showing his musical talent when he on a concert tour at the age of nineteen. Brahms' inspiration for music was influenced by Classical music. His style was mostly slow music, yet, sometimes had a happy tone. Sometimes Brahms uses nationalism of Hungarian music to speed tempo and sound as if it was made for a joyous event. Brahms had many famous works, which probably his most famous work is Lullaby, which is actually created by him, but my favorite, would have to be Hungarian Dance, its fast paced and very Eastern European sounding. What made Brahms' music unique was the fact that used his knowledge of older music in his pieces. Two of my favorite pieces by him are Poco Allegretto, and Ungarischer Tanz. His music moved many, but his generosity to young musicians was even more inspiring to those he taught. Brahms' never married due to his work conducting. Conductor Radu Postavaru Brahms began composing his first symphony in 1854, but much of his work underwent radical changes.[1] The long gestation of the symphony may be attributed to two factors. First, Brahms' self-critical fastidiousness led him to destroy many of his early works. Second, there was an expectation from Brahms' friends and the public that he would continue "Beethoven's inheritance" and produce a symphony of commensurate dignity and intellectual scope?an expectation that Brahms felt he could not fulfill easily in view of the monumental reputation of Beethoven. The value and importance of Brahms' achievements were recognized by Vienna's most powerful critic and staunch conservative, Eduard Hanslick.[ The conductor Hans von Bülow was moved in 1877 to call the symphony "Beethoven's Tenth", due to perceived similarities between the work and various compositions of Beethoven. It is often remarked that there is a strong family resemblance between the main theme of the finale of Brahms' First Symphony and the main theme of the finale of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. Also, Brahms uses the rhythm of the "fate" motto from the opening of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. This rather annoyed Brahms; he felt that this amounted to accusations of plagiarism, whereas he saw his use of Beethoven's idiom in this symphony as an act of conscious homage. La maison Mannborg. Rappel historique. Theodor Mannborg est né à Karlstad, en Suède, en 1861. Il devient apprenti de JP Nylström en Suède et émigre en Allemagne en 1886 où il reçoit une formation du facteur d'orgues Urban Kreutzbach à Borna. Il a établi son usine en 1889 dans cette ville, construisant les premiers harmoniums aspirants d'Allemagne. Rapidement son entreprise devient l'une des plus importantes manufactures d'harmoniums d'Allemagne et d'Europe. Elle commence réellement son activité en 1891. En 1894 elle s'installe à Leipzig tout en conservant une succursale à Borna. Cette délocalisation permet à la manufacture de se développer considérablement et d'aborder une plus large clientèle. Ainsi, si en 1894 le 500e instrument quittait les ateliers, l'année suivante elle finissait son 1000e. À la mort du fondateur en 1929, l'entreprise est restée propriété familiale, mais a peu à peu délaissé la construction d'harmoniums. Durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, l'activité se réduisit à la production de meubles. À partir de 1946 la fabrication de pianos a pu reprendre jusqu'en 1955, où l'entreprise a été rachetée par la Leipziger Pianofortefabrik de Böhlitz-Ehrenberg (archives municipales de Leipzig).
