Acoustic bluesman Eric Bibb may be better known in Europe than he is to the typical US blues fan, but the talented guitarist and songwriter has quietly forged a career of musical excellence and artistic dignity the equal of any contemporary bluesman. Infatuated with acoustic-oriented pre-war blues, Bibb has retrofitted the string-driven Delta blues tradition for a new century, and through the years his music has largely moved away from his early reliance on traditional blues and folk tunes towards his own imaginative and intelligent original material. Performing in a vein similar to artists like Otis Taylor, Corey Harris, and Keb' Mo', Bibb's career is still enjoying an upward trajectory in the 2000s. Through the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s, Bibb released a number of low-key albums, several in collaboration with Bert Deivert, through the independent Swedish label Opus 3 Records. Not many living blues musicians can say they have performed with and recorded for legends like Big Mama Thornton, Sonny Rhodes, Luther Tucker, Jimmy McCracklin, Pee Wee Crayton, Carla Thomas, Booker T. Jones, Percy Mayfield, Etta James, BB King, and Jimmy Reed. Ron Thompson can, and that's just the beginning! Ron Thompson is a legendary rhythm and blues guitarist and master keyboardist whose career began in the rough and tumble world of East San Francisco Bay nightclubs and bars in the early '70s. During many years of touring coast to coast with John Lee Hooker, Hooker was quoted as saying, "Ron Thompson, he's my main man!" After serving as John Lee Hooker's bandleader for seven years, Thompson went on to form his own group, Ron Thompson and His Resisters, and toured extensively in the US, Canada, Europe, and Central America. In the early 80's, Ron met Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac) and the two became musical partners and close friends. Mick convinced Ron to move to Los Angeles where they formed the band, Mick Fleetwood's Blue Whale. Ron Thompson was recently honored by the City of San Francisco for his decades of musical contributions. A few days after Barry Bonds got "his day" in The City for breaking the all-time American baseball home run record, San Francisco celebrated its own musical home run king, Ron Thompson. Here's the story behind this song; I was sitting and wating outiside my chiropractors office, waiting to be seen by her. As I was looking at this bulletin board that was there in front of me, I read a card that said something like this: "Don't let your children go back to school with the back pack blues" I mis-read it to say "back ache blues".
