This is a great example of my Core Relaxation Technique. Notice how I work light to medium, to deep for greater comfort and effectiveness. The process of using my weight to brace the spine in order to work deep into the muscle of the spine, front and back. I address the deep layers of muscle including the spinal erectors and even psoas. My weight is distributed accross the pelvis, for a deep compression pumping action of the lymph and blood of the lower organs, iliacus, psoas, glutes, shu points along the rib joints, and the pressure points at the sacrum. In talking about using the ball I will refer to gravity. When the cervix and baby are being pulled by gravity, this is gravity plus, when the torso is parallel to the floor or bed this is gravity neutral. There is also a position called breaking position when you are on your knees and your head is lower propped up by two fists stacked on top of each other, this is gravity negative and is used to break from pushing before you get to 10 cms. How do you use the ball in labor? If you are sitting on the ball it is important that your legs are open wide and your feet are on the outside edge of the ball(the same width as if you were sitting backwards on a chair or backwards on the toilet). This helps keep your pelvic outlet wide. Because you are sitting on the ball the inside of your pelvis can relax because it is not working to hold you up like when you stand. You can make hip circles as we already talked about. You can also do pelvic tilts and release (this moves the babys head between pubic bone and tailbone) and can help the baby wiggle down onto the cervix. Tipping the hips side to side shifts weight on the sit bones and this helps the baby wiggle down if they seem to be stuck on one side of the pelvis or other. I have had many students say they spend the last two weeks before their due date and lots of time in labor just moving their pelvis around until they feel what feels like the whole of the babys top of the head on the cervix. In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make the chicken for Chicken and Dumplings. The recipe for rolled dumplings will be in the next video. Ingredients: one 4-pound chicken, uncooked and rinsed (giblets removed) 2 teaspoons salt A grinding of fresh black peppercorns 1 teaspoon garlic 1 tablespoon finely-chopped fresh parsley (If you are using dried parsley, use 1 teaspoon.) ¼ teaspoon ground red pepper 2 teaspoons chicken bouillon granules Place chicken in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and add 2 teaspoons salt, a grinding of fresh black peppercorns, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley, and ¼ teaspoon ground red pepper. Cover and reduce heat. Simmer 1 hour. Remove chicken and place it on a platter to cool. Add 2 teaspoons chicken bouillon granules to the broth the chicken was cooked in, and set the chicken broth aside until needed. After chicken has cooled for about 30 minutes, remove the skin and bones, and chop the chicken into chunks. Reserve cooked chicken until ready to continue making Chicken and Dumplings. This method of cooking chicken may be used to obtain chicken for salads, casseroles, etc., but it is the traditional way to prepare chicken for Chicken and Dumplings. This classic Mexican dish finds it's origins in Spain and traveled across the globe with immigrants from Europe and settled in Mexico/South and Central America. If you travel you will find a version of this in many of the Latin American Countries. Simple peasant food this incorporates the traditional corn tortillas with cheese, seasoned tomato sauce and sometimes eggs or like I do with shredded chicken to make a hearty, satisfying casserole that is good hot, at room temperature or cold.
