Bobby Golodsboro Honey Lyrics Biography: Born 18 January 1941, Marianna, Florida, USA. Goldsboro first came to prominence as a guitarist in Roy Orbison's touring band in 1960. His major chart breakthrough for the as a solo singer for the United Artists Records label occurred in 1964 with the self-penned US Top 10 hit "See The Funny Little Clown". During the mid-60s, he also enjoyed minor US hits with such compositions as "Whenever He Holds You", "Little Things" (a UK hit for Dave Berry), "Voodoo Woman", "It's Too Late" and "Blue Autumn". His international status was assured in 1968 with the elegiacal "Honey", a Bobby Russell composition, perfectly suited to Goldsboro's urbane, but anguished, vocal style. The song dominated the US number 1 position for five weeks and was arguably the most unlucky single never to reach number 1 in the UK, twice reaching the number 2 slot, in 1968 and 1975. Goldsboro enjoyed further hits in the early 70s, most notably "Watching Scotty Grow" and the risqué "Summer (The First Time)". In the mid-70s he hosted the syndicated variety series, The Bobby Goldsboro Show, but by 1975 the hits had dried up. In an attempt to extend his appeal, Goldsboro subsequently turned to the country market, forming the House Of Gold Music publishing firm. In the mid-80s he inaugurated a successful career in children's entertainment, writing and producing stories and animated specials, including the highly successful The Swamp Critters Of Lost Lagoon. Bobby Goldsboro's career has been a remarkable evolution. This multi-talented performer started out in the early sixties as a guitarist with the legendary Roy Orbison. During his three years with Orbison he traveled all over the world and even toured with the Beatles. Bobby was also the opening act for the Rolling Stones on their first US tour! In 1964, he went out on his own by recording the first of a string of hit records, "See the Funny Little Clown". Then, in 1968 he recorded the classic "Honey," which became the largest selling record in the world. His recordings of "Watchin' Scotty Grow," "Little Green Apples" and "With Pen In Hand" have also become classics. The seventies brought his own nationally syndicated television show which ran for three successful seasons. During this time he became a much sought-after "regular" on the TV talk show circuit. Bobby then formed House of Gold Music which became on of the most successful music publishing companies in Nashville, publishing such songs as "Wind Beneath My "Wings" and "Behind Closed Doors." Bobby Goldsboro, the songwriter, has received twenty-seven BMI awards and his compositions have been recorded by such diverse artists as Aretha Franklin, John Denver, Paul Anka, Dolly Parton, Billy Vera, Dr. John, and Bette Midler.
