From 1963 to 1967 Bobbi Lee Justice and The Scepters were the house band at the infamous Mynah Bird Club in Toronto's Yorkville Village...in 1964 as "The Mynah Birds" they recorded The Mynah Bird Song for owner Colin Kerr, but due to an argument over the " b " side of the recording refused to allow it's release and eventually passed it and the Mynah Bird name on to Neil Young and Rick James. This is an interview done by John Donabie on NewsTalk 1010 CFRB radio in Toronto with Bobbi Lee Justice from Bobbi Lee and The Scepters. This is about the song "Mynah Bird" Rick James & Neil Young's band recorded it, but this is an earlier version of the song. Bobbi Lee and The Scepters were the original Mynah Birds and the first to record The Mynah Bird Hop as a studio demo for Colin Kerr and his brother who wrote the song The recording has no " B " side as they could not come to an agreement with Kerr as to what it would be...he wanted another song with Rajah and they wanted to record a cover of " Mr. Pitiful ", thus the " b " side remained blank and was used as a demo to shop to major labels etc. There were only a few hundred made and Bobbi Lee Justice gave his copy to Scott Young (a reporter and fan at the time) to give to his son Neil Young, who along with Rick James, had been filling in for Bobbi Lee and The Scepters every third weekend at Mynah Bird Club while they played gigs outside the Village. Rick asked Bobbi Lee and The Scepters they were going to change their name as Colin requested and do a master recording of the song and they declined, so they ended up striking a deal with Colin Kerr/Motown and eventually recorded it as The Mynah Birds.. + Informações
