Veteran Broadcasters Honored By Friars Club: A Who's Who of New York Broadcast Media "Saluted" at Presentation The legendary Friars Club will honor acclaimed journalist Bob Woodruff with a Lifetime Journalistic Achievement Award on Monday, October 3, 2011. NBC's Brian Williams, previous recipient of the award, will make the presentation. Event Producer, PIX 11's Marvin Scott, notes, "The Friars Club is known for it's comedic and entertainment icons, but lesser known is the fact that it's roster of esteemed members includes such legendary news broadcasters as Edward R. Murrow, Walter Cronkite, Mike Wallace, and Brian Williams." The Friars Club began presenting the award and paying tribute to local broadcasters in 2002. Being saluted for their "commitment to objectively reporting the news," are Bill Ritter (WABC-TV / ABC 20/20), Harry Martin (Fox 5 News / MY9 News) Dana Tyler (CBS 2 News) David Ushery (WNBC-TV News) and Sukanya Krishnan (PIX11 Morning News) Scott says Woodruff is being singled out for the special presentation because "His courage symbolizes the risks journalists take in pursuit of the truth." Woodruff almost died doing his job in Iraq. Although he is known for reporting the news, he became the news on January 29, 2006.
