Bob Wills - Steel Guitar Rag 1936 2.57 min. | 4.9765887 avaliação | 112997 exibições Bob Wills was born in Kosse, Texas in 1905. In 1929 he started the Wills Fiddle Boys in Ft. Worth, then came to the attention of perennial Texas Gubernatorial candidate Pappy Lee O'Daniel who ran the Light Crust Flour Mills in Saginaw, Texas just north of Ft. Worth. Wills lept to fame playing as the Light Crust Doughboys but after several years the band tired of the gig as they were also expected to load flour trucks during the day. In '34 the band moved to Tulsa to get away from Pappy Lee and formed the Texas Playboys. They invented western music with a jazz beat known as Western Swing. Some of his music was dead-on jazz while other songs were straight western-his genre was hard to pin down. On clear channel 50000 watt KVOO in Tulsa The Playboys broadcast from Cain's Ballroom on North Mainand they played it all. In 1968 Wills was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame as the King of Western Swing- and as Willie Nelson crooned-he's still the King. Wills died in Tulsa in 1975. Leon McAuliffe, his steel guitar player featured on this record, was born in Houston, Texas in 1917. He played with Bob Wills band until WWII and after the war formed his own group in Tulsa.. + Informações |

Bob Wills & The Texas Playboys with Tommy Duncan and the McKinney Sisters - New San Antonio Rose 2.23 min. | 4.9589744 avaliação | 123810 exibições This is an improved version of the movie clip. I love the shot of KFWB at the beginning. This was filmed in 1944 and features a hybrid version of the two hit versions. This has fiddle and steel, and multi-million selling record had neither. Tommy Duncan once told me that, "The biggest selling record we ever had didn't have a lick of fiddle." But Bob recorded it multiple times on film, audio and video. Tommy did many versions on various labels as well. He must have realized when it came time to play it at apperances that it left him with nothing to do except smile and say ah-ha. His first hit was San Antonio Rose in 1939 an instrumental fiddle reworking of Spanish Two Step, which Bob had written. When he added horns and formed the big band to go with the string band, he recorded the "New" San Antonio Rose in 1940. He got it right on Worried Mind in 1941 he added steel to the arrangement. World War 2 broke up the big band, Tommy joined the Army, Bob got drafted, no recordings by anyone in 1943...musicians strike. Shortgage of shellac to press 78s. New San Antonio Rose was #11 in 1940 and was reissued in 1943 and went to number 19. Bing Crosby also recorded it.. + Informações |

Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys - Trouble In Mind (1936) 3.47 min. | 4.9166665 avaliação | 10597 exibições Bob Wills was the driving force behind Western Swing, a form of Country & Western that fuses Jazz, Hillbilly, Blues, Big Band Swing, and many more rhythm forms together creating a truly Unique, Diverse and Unforgettable sound. Wills' shrewd mix of horns, fiddles and steel guitar made for a swinging sound that grabbed the public's ear during the mid 1930s and 1940s. Bob Wills was born into a family of fiddlers on March 6, 1905. His father, John Wills regularly won Texas fiddling competitions. Bob learned how to play fiddle and mandolin from his father. As a young man, Wills performed at house dances, medicine shows and in 1929 made his debut on the radio. With commercial sponsorship, Wills' bands performed on radio in the early 1930s as "Aladdin's Laddies" (for the Aladdin Lamp Co.) and "The Light Crust Doughboys" (for Light Crust Flour). Following a salary dispute, Wills renamed his band the Texas Playboys and relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he had a live radio show. This exposure led to a contract with the American Recording Corporation - later absorbed into Columbia Records. In September 1935, Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys recorded their first songs in a makeshift recording studio in an old Dallas Warehouse. From that point on, The Texas Playboys became an overnight sensation and recorded prolifically and made such classics as "Steel Guitar Rag", "Maiden's Prayer", "Take Me Back to Tulsa" and Wills' signature song, "San Antonio Rose". Their biggest hit, was "New .... + Informações |

Bob Wills - Oklahoma 2.58 min. | 4.942029 avaliação | 45335 exibições In this clip, from the B Western "Take Me Back to Oklahoma," Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys croon in perfect harmony 'Oklahoma we love you,' with Wills' signature backup calls. Riding with Tex Ritter, they sing together 'Calamity Kate.' But, clearly, the King of Western Swing makes Ritter pale in comparison, in our opinion. See more at: www.weirdovideo.com. + Informações |
