Brighton indie duo claim that The Vaccines and You Me At Six are terrible role models for young bands. The indie band, who release new single 'Cold' this week told Gigwise that 'career-ist' bands can only inspire bands to follow suit and shun individuality. "There's load of terrible music at the moment. What bothers me is stuff like The Vaccines and You Me At Six - really safe, really clean-cut bands that seem very career-ist to me and its a decision to be what they are," said Steven Ansell of the band. "The thing that bothers me about that is that both those bands are pretty successful, so that's going to inspire other people to do that, to follow a trend and just do something that's very manageable and very middle of the road, because it looks appealing and it succeeds. "People will follow those trends and that sucks, people should be encouraged to do something more individual and bands should do different stuff and do more different things and be more themselves - and less careerist - and then we'll have a more interesting scope of music out there." The band also lay responsibilty on record labels for signing 'safe' bands instead of seeking more alternative sounds. Check out the snippet of the interview below.
