I expect to market the complete work next year (2011) but I had so much fun making these, I thought I'd let friends and family hear these trial runs. This is the creepiest track of the first batch. I've always been fascinated by Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard, and I added a bit of EC comics horror to this song. The notorious Edward Teach, also known as "Blackbeard, Scourge of the Seven Seas," was born in Bristol, England, somewhere around 1680. By 1716, he had joined the pirate crew of one Benjamin Hornigold, but he rose quickly through the ranks and soon had his own ship, the Queen Anne's Revenge. For the next two years he was a fearsome pirate captain with a fleet of his own pirate ships in the West Indies and off the eastern coast of the American colonies. He was killed in battle when a British Naval Lieutenant Robert Maynard tracked him down on Ocracoke island near North Carolina and fought a pitched battle with his ship. Blackbeard thought he was winning and ordered his crew to board Maynard's battered vessel, but Maynard had hidden several men below deck and they came as a total surprise to Teach and his crew. This is part of the only footage I have left from my days of filming, photographing, and street teaming for Zephaniah in 2008. This was shot at my birthday party down in Terre Haute, Indiana (my actual birthday was 2 days later). My father came up to visit and asked if I wanted to go and see Dream Theater. My reply to him was "No...we're going to travel with a few of my friends down to Terre Haute for a show...and prepare to be blown away!! There is a long story to share with all of you about this awesome power metal band from the city of Fort Wayne, Indiana. It's a story that I will hold dear to my heart for the rest of my life. To sum up the words about 2008, I've only got 3: WHAT A RUSH!!!!!! I first heard of Zephaniah thanks to a friend of mine named Karl Jones, who was playing drums for a local Fort Wayne band called Under The Wake. I had seen UTW play a few gigs during the last 3 months of 2007, and when I heard they were releasing an album in March, I immediatly bought a ticket. The lineup was Verge Of Submission, 80000 Dead, The Blood Reckoning, Act Of War, Zephaniah, and Under The Wake. VoS was debuting a young new bassist, Justinian Dispenza, and impressed me again (I saw them in November 2007open for Under The Wake at the Firehouse Theater) with a few new songs. The 3 next bands I wasn't into all that much, but I definitely remember one of the vocalists with this big, long mullet. Then, a moment that changed things dramatically. At the invitation of Black Beard author Keven Duffus, Virginia's infamous "Blackbeard's Crew" gathered at the very site where the Battle of Okracoke ended with the murder of Black Beard exactly 290 years prior. "Ahhh... but they do tell tales, so says I, Davy Jones [or Blackbeard]..." I've been experimenting with some LEGO effects to create the waterfall scene in the 2006 updated Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. Now that LEGO has released both the Davy Jones and Blackbeard minifigures, I knew I had to do something awesome with them. I initially tried to attempt a "Pepper's Ghost" effect on real running water, however the "Ghost" was difiicult to see against the movement. Instead, I had to go with the other alternative which is photo editing :P I performed the voice-acting of Jones and Blackbeard in Audacity and the music is a recycled POTC keyboard mix from one of my older videos.
