This is an instrumental version of a 1930s Neapolitan song in waltz-time written by Cesare Andrea Bixio (1896 - 1978), who also wrote "Mamma", "Parlami d'Amore Mariu" and "Vivere". This song was written for the soundtrack of the 1933 movie "La Canzone del Sole" (an early Vittorio de Sica vehicle) and was recorded by De Sica himself as well as Carlo Buti and Daniele Serra (all three of these recordings are on Youtube). My instrumental version is based on the arrangement by the late Matteo Casserino (1911-2001), the mainstay of the Italian sessions at Caffe Trieste in Berkeley. His original recording, and hand-written music chart, are available at: www.brucezweig.com The same arrangement is also (in neater typesetting) in Sheri Mignano's invaluable book "Mandolin Melodies". Played on my 1890s Umberto Ceccherini bowlback mandolin with tenor guitar backing. Another great synch has been put on the list of sucessful IDM's international collaborations. Frankin Rd & IDM Music have recently completed the soundtrack for the film "Love Story" directed by the New Zealand director and actor Florian Habich. Florian is responsible for some of this decade's most original New Zealand films, including Woodenhead, a Grimm inspired musical fairytale, renowned for the innovation of recording the entire soundtrack first, (including the dialogue with different actors) before shooting the visuals for the film. This time, he has collected his experience of his 1-year living in New York and transformed it into a romance in a form of fictional documentary. Love Story sees filmmaker Florian Habicht finding a movie, a plot, and a beautiful Ukranian Masha, on the streets of New York and giving his own homage to the city and the notion of love.
