Billy Stewart - Summertime (1966) 2.80 min. COMMENTARIES WILL BE APPRECIATED! SE AGRADECEN LOS COMENTARIOS!. + Informações |

Apparantly the master damaged or lost some point, Pookie thought it might be interesting to post the original single version. Pookie has always said that nobody finishes a song like Billy. Apologies for the record wear, it's 47 years old!!. + Informações |

Billy Stewart - "Summertime" (1966) 2.78 min. | 4.9472528 avaliação | 142819 exibições Billy Stewart (March 24, 1937 January 17, 1970) was an American musical artist, with a highly distinctive scat-singing style, who enjoyed popularity in the 1960s. Stewart was 12 years old when he began singing with his brothers Johnny 11, James 9 and Frank 4 as the 4 Stewart Brothers, and later went on to get their own radio show every Sunday for five years at WUST radio station in Washington, DC After that, he joined his mother's group, the Stewart Gospel Singers, as a teenager. He made the transition to secular music by filling in occasionally for The Rainbows, a DC area vocal group led by the future soul star, Don Covay. It was also through The Rainbows that Stewart met another aspiring singer, Marvin Gaye. Seminal rock and roller Bo Diddley has been credited with discovering Stewart playing piano in Washington, DC in 1956 and inviting him to be one of his backup musicians. This led to a recording contract with Diddley's label, Chess Records and Diddley played guitar on Stewart's 1956 recording of "Billy's Blues". A strong seller in Los Angeles, "Billy's Blues" reached the sales top 25 in Variety magazine. Stewart then moved to Okeh Records and recorded "Billy's Heartache", backed by the Marquees, another DC area group which featured Marvin Gaye. Back at Chess in the early 1960s, Stewart began working with A&R man Billy Davis. He recorded a song called "Fat Boy" and then had additional success with his recordings of "Reap What You Sow" and "Strange Feeling", both .... + Informações |

Billy Stewart - Summertime - HQ 4.97 min. | 4.9583335 avaliação | 24825 exibições Billy Stewart (March 24, 1937 -- January 17, 1970) While Stewart continued to record throughout the remainder of the 1960s on Chess without major success, his weight problem worsened and he developed diabetes. He suffered minor injuries in a motorcycle accident in 1969 and died the following January, just two months prior to his 33rd birthday. It happened when the car he was driving plunged into the Neuse River in Smithfield, North Carolina, killing him and three members of his band.. + Informações |

Billy Stewart - Crazy 'Bout You Baby 2.63 min. | 4.904762 avaliação | 17377 exibições One of the last singles released by DC native, Billy Stewart. Nobody had the uniqueness of this man's vocal stylings, and i've always said no one finished a song like Billy Stewart could. Released in '69, this track undoubtedly was done a few years earlier. Billy Davis left Chess in 1967, and being his production, this had to have been done before then. Also of note is that instead of the usual Phil Wright or Charles Stepney treatment, this track was arranged by New Yorker Bert Keyes. Though known for those wonderful, misty mid-tempo ballads, I always felt this was a great vocal performance that has been sadly overlooked. And like pookie says, nobody finishes a song like Billy Stewart. Enjoy another in the legacy of Soul Music's stylistic genius. A Universal Music Group recording.. + Informações |

Billy Stewart Summertime 'Live' 4.53 min. | 4.888889 avaliação | 42837 exibições If you wondered what Billy Stewart may have lived to create in the 70's and 80's, listen to this. A rare live recording of Summertime done to extreme, using echoplex and his own natural vocal gymnastics. The sound is only adequate, but it's so wonderful to hear one of the most unique singers of any era. From the CD 'Essential Billy Stewart'.. + Informações |
