Bad to me - gave Billy & The Dakotas a #1 hit, in 1963. The B side - I call your name. Both written by John Lennon - but never released as a single. The Beatles version of "Bad to me" exists only as a demo version. The 2nd song, "I call your name" was released by The Beatles on EP (Long Tall Sally) in 1964. These are great songs from a great era. "I'm in Love" is a song written by John Lennon and credited to both John Lennon and Paul McCartney. This song was never recorded by The Beatles.However, a home recording of Lennon performing the song does exist. In 1963 the English Merseybeat band The Fourmost made a recording of the song in the Abbey Road Studios, produced by George Martin. Billy J. Kramer also recorded a version of the song, but the version by The Fourmost was selected for the issue and reached number 17 in the United Kingdom. Billy J Kramer: "I'm In Love" was a song that John and Paul brought down to a session at Abbey Road. The band and I had been recording and were about to finish for the day when they played this song for me. We quickly learned the song and did record it, but didn't have the time to finish it. Honestly, I had forgotten about it until a few years ago when EMI America released it as part of The Best Of Billy J. Kramer. A fellow named Ron Furmanek, who is a pop music historian, found the recording in the vaults of EMI and edited two of the takes that we had done into one. It was strange to hear it after all these years, especially hearing John shouting directions to me in the studio. I once again realized what a fabulous song it was and I started performing it on my shows a few years ago and everyone seem to love it.. + Informações

Host Brian Matthew -------------------------------- "Thank Your Lucky Stars" was a British television pop music show made by ABC Television, and broadcast on ITV from 1961 to 1966. Many of the top bands performed on it, and for millions of British teenagers it was essential viewing. As well as featuring British artists, American guests were frequent visitors. Audience participation was a strong feature of "Thank Your Lucky Stars", and the Spin-a-Disc section, where a guest DJ and three teenagers reviewed three singles, is a very well remembered feature of the show. Generally American singles were reviewed. The Merseyside specials are very fondly remembered and gained huge audiences. Managed by The Beatles' Brian Epstein and produced by George Martin (who produced The Beatles), Billy J, Kramer & The Dakotas continued the Mersey-beat from England in 1964 with "Bad To Me". The song was composed by John Lennon expressly for this group (although credited to both Lennon and Paul McCartney), and it became the first hit composed by a Beatle that was recorded by another group. "Bad to Me" is a song John Lennon wrote (credited to Lennon/McCartney) for Billy J. Kramer & The Dakotas while John was on holiday in Spain in 1963. Billy J. Kramer & The Dakotas released their recording of the song in 1963 and it became their first #1 UK hit. Paul McCartney was present during the recording session at Abbey Road Studios. The single would be released in the USA the following year, and become a top-ten hit there, reaching number 9. It became the first Lennon/McCartney composition to reach the US Top 40 for an artist other than the Beatles. Bootlegs exist of Lennon's original demo of the song, which was recorded on 31 May 1963. Billy J. Kramer (born William Howard Ashton, 19 August 1943, Bootle, Liverpool, England) is a British Invasion/Merseybeat singer. In the 1960s he was managed by Brian Epstein, who also managed The Beatles, and he recorded several original Lennon and McCartney compositions. He grew up as the youngest of seven siblings and attended the St George of England Secondary School, Bootle. He then took up an engineering apprenticeship with British Railways and in his spare time played rhythm guitar in a group he had formed himself, before switching to become a vocalist. The performing name Kramer was chosen at random from a telephone directory. It was John Lennon's suggestion that the "J" be added to the name to further distinguish him by adding a 'tougher edge'.
