This video was taken December 12, 2006 during Storytime on Tuesday night at the Milpitas, California library. All the children were working on singing this song for a couple of months, and we sang this song all the time between stories during Storytime. The children in this video are all between 2 and 8 years old. This song is complete with handclapping (which the kids are really taken with). Lucky Ladybug was a song sang by the duo Billy and Lillie in fall 1958. Billy and Lillie also had another song called "La Dee Dah" in 1958 that reached # 9. When it (La Dee Dah) became a big hit, DJ Dick Clark (of American Bandstand fame) told the writers to think up something similar. So they came up with Lucky Ladybug, which is sort of a calypso song. Lucky Ladybug reached # 14 on Billboard top 100 in January 1959. Billy Ford (the male part of the duo) died in 1984 at age 59. Lillie Bryant Howard (the female vocalist in the duo) is still alive and well, and is currently 67 years old and lives in the lower Hudson Valley in New York and still sings. Lucky Ladybug was released on Swan Records # 4020 in 1959. It happened that Bernie Lowe and also Kal Mann who wrote "Butterfly" which was sung by Charlie Gracie and also Andy Williams as well as "Wild One" sung by Bobby Rydell, owned Swan Records. "Lucky Ladybug" (1959) US #14 Billy & Lillie were an American pop vocal duo comprised of Billy Ford (b. Mar. 9, 1925, Bloomfield, New Jersey) and Lillie Bryant (b. Feb. 14, 1940, Newburg, New York). They recorded for Swan Records in the late 1950s and charted three hit singles in the United States, two of them written by the legendary writer-producer Bob Crewe. This song is as much about who wrote and produced it as it is about who sang it. Bob Crewe is best known for his work with Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons starting with their hit "Sherry" and continuing through most of the hits this group had in the 60s. But before his work with the Four Seasons, Crewe had a few hits in the 1950's starting with "Silhouettes" by the Rays, and this little number by Billy (Ford) and Lillie (Bryant) which went to #9 in January of 1958. The Four Hares (Laura Hare, Katie Hare, Preston Dunn, and Bill Hare) singing "Lucky Ladybug", a song from 1958 live on September 4, 2007 at Bill Hare Productions in Milpitas, California. There are two takes in this video (the second take was sooo much better!!). The song was originally a # 14 hit song in January 1959 for the group Billy and Lillie which was made of the duo Billy Ford (died 1985) and Lillie Bryant (now Lillie Bryant Howard, who was born on 2/14/1940 in Newburgh, New York and still is a resident there). We thought this would be such an adorable song to sing, so we did ourselves!! Enjoy!! THE FOUR HARES ARE: Preston Dunn (born 5/8/1976), from San Jose, California. He was 31 in this video, but just turned 32 on May 8th this year. He holds a BA degree in Geography from California State University, Stanislaus in Turlock, California.
