"Gonna Fly Now", also known as "Theme from Rocky", is the theme song from the movie Rocky, composed by Bill Conti with lyrics by Carol Connors and Ayn Robbins. Released in 1976 with the movie Rocky, the song became part of American popular culture after main character Rocky Balboa completed his daily training regimen while the song played. The song finishes as Rocky completes his famous run up the "Rocky Steps" of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and raises his arms in a victory pose. The song is also often played at sporting events, especially at sporting events in the city of Philadelphia or featuring sports teams from there. The song (whose lyrics have a total count of 30 words) was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in the 49th Academy Awards. A "bad cop, good hooker" film fresh off the factory line, Rent-A-Cop really has nothing distinct to tell about it. A former Chicago police detective is kicked off the force after a sting goes wrong (but it wasn't his fault, of course) and he is forced to work as a department store security guard while masked as Santa Claus. That would be Burt Reynolds wearing the costume. And then you've got a prostitute with a heart of gold who is the only person who can help the cop solve the case that involves him. That would be Liza Minnelli with the shrill voice. The cop hesitates, the hooker persists, they both suffer from the same danger, and they're forced to save their lives together and bring down the stereotypical eccentric 'vice lord' and his criminal gang of thugs. There's no need to belabor the self-explanatory romantic aspect of the story. One of the only things that worked reasonably well for Rent-A-Cop is the on-screen chemistry between Reynolds and Minnelli (or Burt and Liza, as the movie poster said in huge letters), re-uniting as a couple on the big screen for a second time. Other than their strangely funny and enjoyable pairing, the film's ridiculously predictable plot left no other redeeming element to the production (unfortunately, director Jerry London's career would be littered with such entries). However, I know Bill Conti as a composer and orchestra leader. I remember his name is connected to one of the most popular TV Shows from the 1980'S (Theme from 'Dynasty'). He is also the man behind the orchestra of the Academy Awards ceremony. For 'Can You Feel It', Jean Roch wanted to use 'The Final Bell' from 'Rocky II'. This sample was replayed in studio for many technical reasons (speed, layering). In the end, what we get is a powerful House track with a very catchy melody and great vocals. But, where is Adrian? ADRIAAAAAN???? ADRIAAAAAAN??!! INNER LIFE / UNA MAS: Una Mas is a duo composed of Lee Hamblin and Simon Law. They teamed up with Full Intention (another production duo) in 2002 for 'I Will Follow', a good reminiscing of the 'Big Love' syndrome generated by Pete Heller in 1999. All the samples were replayed in studio (strings, keyboards, bongos). Very well made as you can hear. Another search ! Dire Straits enter the Top 40 at #30 which got me to thinking :) What was the highest debut in the Top 40 for an act with their debut hit ? in the 1970's. South African human rights advocates honored with Lincoln Medal. On the evening of June 6, the historical Ford's Theater in Washington, DC, USA hosted a star-filled event where the distinguished Lincoln Medal was presented to two individuals whose accomplishments symbolize the actions and integrity of the country's 16th President Abraham Lincoln. This year's awards were presented to human rights activist, South African Archbishop and Nobel Peace Prize laureate His Eminence Desmond Tutu, and South African Constitutional Court Honorable Justice Albie Sachs. "Box Clever" - I scored the quirky music for this animation in 2001. Wow, time has flown! It was part of my MA in Film and Television Composition at Kingston University, London (2001-2002).
