Batstone's gentle voice, great lyrics, and great musicianship from all the band members make this song and this album stand out. The key line, "You reached down from Heaven and set me free" presents us with awesome imagery of this amazing being stooping down to free us. Another line says, "You surrounded me with your love and strong security." Beautiful! 2. This song resembles much of what could be considered soft rock or country rock. In many churches, songs like this one can plod along without changes in mood, intensity, and volume. It is somewhat up to the drummer to make sure that happens. One of the Praise Band's best but not well known songs. The beat reminds me of Majek Fashek's "So Long". It was written for and released during the Praise Band's live performance in 1995 It was written by Bill Batstone and Tommy Coomes. Not all members were present during the performance as the singers on this occasion were simply John & Anne Barbour, Marsha Skidmore, Bill Batstone & Tommy Coomes. By the way, the Praise Band still exist, they are just no longer with Maranatha! and are now known simply as the Tommy Coomes Band as "every one now has a Praise Band". The Maranatha! A Powerful song which utilizes the Bass properly as well as the singer's voice. Bill Batstone used a similar technique when writing "O Lord Come" from "Maranatha!:12 Songs of Hope" and also when writing "We Have Overcome" from the 3rd album from the Spiritual Warfare Series "Binding the Strong Man" All 3 were voiced by Denny Correll. Hallelujah was the 2nd album released from the Words of Worship Series in 1988. The Words of Worship being Abba, Hallelujah, Maranatha, Hosanna and Amen.
