Big Jay McNeely is famous for his incredible live performances and for the extraordinary energy with which he plays the sax. He plays an important role in the history of Afro-American music, in particular as a pioneer of R&B. Big Jay was born in 1927 and became known in the Nineteen Fifties for the use of his saxophone in Rock 'n' Roll songs, an unusual practice at the time. His musical journey continues with experiences with jazz, R&B and blues ("There Is Something On Your Mind", one of his big hits from 1959, is part of the blues tradition). In 1971 he retired from the stage, only to reappear in the Eighties thanks to the revival of R&B. Big Jay McNeely performed at the Grammy Awards 1987 together with BB King and Ry Cooder, and today he continues playing, despite his 83 years of age, with what has become his legendary energy. The honky and soul style of his sax and the show he creates with his determined band, still manage to thrill the public which are reported to often follows him out of the venues and onto the streets where he continues to play.... + Informações
