I'm pleased with how this worked out, so here's the video. Since I've posted several others alongside this one, I don't feel bad about it! A rotary switch would have been a nicer choice in terms of size occupied and the amount of wiring required. Everything I could find was either too small, too big (too many switch points) or too expensive. So I did this instead. The big thing here is the way that the switch logic prevents more than one speed tap from ever being energized. Each switch can energize one tap on the motor. The Battlefield Line's Peckett 0-6-0ST "Sir Gomer" visited the Pontypool Railway in mid September 2011 for the Industry of South Wales gala. The Peckett operated alongside fellow Peckett's "Whitehead" and "Mardy Monster" as well as Austerity "Mech Navvies" and Bagnall No19. The weekend timetable was intensive with a strong service on the Friday operated by the visiting Peckett's. I was there on the Friday, riding on the footplate as Engine Rep for the Battlefield Line. The engine did us proud, taking on the 1 in 24 incline three times, hauling 3 Mk1's and a dead 60-ton Mardy Monster. She also hauled the opening train of the new Big Pit branch line, with BBC Radio Wales presenter Roy Noble visiting the footplate at Furnace Sidings. A lovely day throughout.
