GPEC is a public/private partnership between 18 cities and towns in the Greater Phoenix area, the county of Maricopa, and about 150 of Arizona's top companies. Michael Bidwell, Chairman of GPEC, speaks with Tali at the 2009 InterSolar Conference 2009 in San Francisco, CA. At the InterSolar Conference GPEC is focusing all of their attention on the solar industry and the renewable energy industry. In the first week of July, Arizona just passed a new, incentive based legislation that allows companies who are in the renewable energy and solar industry to receive tax benefits in the state of Arizona. GPEC and the state of Arizona would welcome any new businesses coming and building their factories in Arizona to receive these benefits. The legislation is a 10 year program that reduces corporate taxes and property taxes for businesses who are will to invest $25 million or more into a project they are building. This will help to reduce capital costs of very expensive projects. The requirements for businesses to receive these tax benefits are: the company has to invest $25 million in the project they are working on, they have to be creating jobs that are above the mean wage in Arizona, they have to have 80% health care benefits for their employees, and they have to be in the renewable energy industry.
