You can hear the 6/8 meter underlying rhythm which harkens back to earlier pop music of the 50s and 60s. After recently watching a video on YT by Beverly in which she introduced herself, I discovered after 40 years that every DJ was pronouncing her name incorrectly. Beverly Bremers is an American singer and actress. After roles on Broadway, Bremers released a successful 1972 album, I'll Make You Music, containing the hit single "Don't Say You Don't Remember". Born in Chicago, Illinois Bremers appeared in theatre, including the original Broadway productions of Hair as Sheila and Crissy and The Me Nobody Knows (winning an Obie Award, and in The Rocky Horror Show in Los Angeles. She has also performed extensively in clubs and concerts in the US, in television commercials, radio, films and games, often as a voice actor. She wrote the song, "Mousercise" for Disney, which received a platinum record and became the theme for the show of the same name on the Disney Channel and is used in other Disney products. Her songs that have charted in the US and Europe include "Morning Music" and the theme from the film Hopscotch. She has also written music and lyrics for the stage musicals produced in Los Angeles and San Diego. In 1972, Bremers released her album, I'll Make You Music, on Scepter Records, which reached #124 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The album spawned three hit singles, the most popular being "Don't Say You Don't Remember", which reached #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #5 AC. She later became a vocal coach in Southern California. "Don't Say You Don't Remember" was included on the Have a Nice Decade box set. Beverly Ann also recorded as Beverly Bremers. Her two singles on RCA, "You've Got Your Mind On Other Things", and "He's Coming Home" are virtually synonymous with the legendary Wigan Casino. In 2001, my friend Kev Roberts rang up, out of the blue and said he'd made cointact with Beverly Ann and would I take her out to dinner while she was in London, so I thought what a great idea to recut her Northern Soul classics and film her for posterity. Her wonderful single on Scepter as Beverly Bremers, "Get Smart Girl", used to be one of my favourite records growing up in the 1960s, and discovering obscure records with a Motown sound, which it most certainly did have. And it also seems particularly poignant that the footage we edited together with the video, taken in New York prior to 9/11/2001. shows lots of very prominent shots of the World Trade Centre.
