Bauhaus were an English rock band formed in Northampton in 1978. The group consisted of Peter Murphy (vocals), Daniel Ash (guitar), Kevin Haskins (drums) and David J (bass). The band originally went by the name Bauhaus 1919, dropping the latter portion within a year of their formation. With their dark, gloomy sound and image, Bauhaus are generally considered the first gothic rock group. Bauhaus first broke up in 1983. Peter Murphy began a solo career while the other members continued as Tones on Tail and, later, Love and Rockets. Both enjoyed greater commercial success in the United States than Bauhaus had, but disappeared from the charts in their homeland. The band reunited for a 1998 tour and on a more permanent basis in 2005. The group announced plans to disband again before the release of their final album, Go Away White (2008). HISTORY of Bauhaus David J. Haskins, his younger brother Kevin Haskins and their friend Daniel Ash had played together in various bands since childhood, often not lasting more than one gig. One of the more long-lived of these was a band called The Craze, which did a few gigs around Northampton. The band soon split however and Ash once again tried to convince his old school friend Peter Murphy to join him, simply because Ash thought he had the right look for a band.. + Informações

Coined by the architect Walter Gropius, Bauhaus combines the root of the German verb bauen (to build) with haus (house). It is the name given to the art school founded by Gropius under the original title of the Staatliches Bauhaus Weimar. The Bauhaus, which lasted from 1919-1933, has come to represent the distillation of the Modern movement and the fundamentalist design ethic. www.artehistoria.com El principal objetivo de la Bauhaus, la Casa de la Construcción, era la renovación de la arquitectura, del mobiliario urbano y del diseño. Sus principales representantes serán los arquitectos Walter Gropius y Mies van der Rohe. Gropius fue el ayudante de Peter Behrens. Entre ambos, en 1910, construyeron la Faguswerk en Alfeld-an-der-Leine, proyecto que supera la fábrica de turbinas AEG realizada por Behrens un año antes. Por primera vez se concibe la fachada entera de vidrio mientras los elementos sustentantes se reducen a ligeras columnas de acero, eliminando los sostenes de los ángulos. Será en 1919 cuando Gropius se convierta en director de la Bauhaus. Tres años más tarde presenta su proyecto de la Chicago Tribune Tower donde el rascacielos adquiere formas simbólicas, presentando anchas ventanas y austeras formas rectangulares. La obra maestra de Gropius es el edificio de la Bauhaus en Dessau, entre 1925 y 1926. Tiene planta en forma de doble ele, creando diferentes ejes, articulando los volúmenes de manera similar a las composiciones de Klee o Kandinsky. Predominan las líneas rectas y se elimina cualquier referencia decorativa, destacando las amplias superficies acristaladas. Tras abandonar la Bauhaus, Gropius se interesó por la vivienda, colaborando en la construcción de la Colonia Dammerstock en Karlsruhe.
