After many years I finally got one! Probably the rarest "issued" Motown related 45. Obviously there are acetates, demo's etc that never got to publishing and therefore are rarer, but this is a bit like the holy grail for us Motown stripes collectors. Don't ask about cost, if you are asking you probably can't afford it .. but I am very pleased to have it now (even if I did have to part with some rare 45's to pay for it) Barrett Strong was only a boy at school when he laid this down, so Berry Gordy took the credits, it was recorded in the basement of a small local radio show as Tamla didn't yet have a studio. It's said that this 45 was the catalist in making Gordy form Motown Records. It's going to be in my "Motown stripes playlist" from now on!. + Informações

A series of piano overdubs were later added by producer George Martin. The song was released in November 1963 as the final track on their second UK album, With The Beatles. According to George Harrison, the group discovered Strong's version in Brian Epstein's NEMS record store (though not a hit in the UK, it had been issued on London Records in 1960). They had previously performed it during their audition at Decca Records on January 1,1962. They also recorded it six times for BBC radio. A live version, taped at a concert date in Stockholm, Sweden in October 1963, was included on Anthology 1.. + Informações

My first two purchased records were 78s in '56...Peggy Sue and Blue Suede Shoes (still got em). I listened mostly to KDIA in San Francisco/Oakland back in the day. If I liked a new song, I bought it.
