Fundada em 5 de Julho de 1842 por João José da Costa, José Lucas da Costa, Manuel da Silva Torres, Francisco Correia da Cruz, José Adelino Ferreira da Silva, entre outros, a Sociedade Filarmónica Figueirense possui a banda em actividade ininterrupta ao longo destes anos. Musicalmente esteve presente em inaugurações importantes da cidade, como por exemplo no ramal do caminho-de-ferro, Coliseu Figueirense, Casino da Figueira, Grande Hotel da Figueira, Ponte sobre o Mondego, Estátua do Centenário, entre outros. A sua ligação à arte dos sons faz com que a colectividade guarde um dos mais importantes espólios musicais locais o arquivo do Maestro Herculano Rocha, patente na sua sala-museu. A abrilhantar corridas de toiros desde 1895, esta filarmónica interpretou pasodobles toureros para os maiores nomes da tauromaquia e, por exemplo, Ricardo Chibanga ou Joaquim Bastinhas já lhe dedicaram faenas. Foi primeiro regente da filarmónica Abinadab Nunes da Silva. A Sociedade Filarmónica Figueirense, para além de várias actuações em concertos, cortejos religiosos, actos oficiais e touradas possui ainda uma escola de música, sob a direcção do actual regente Carlos Cardanho, que assim sucede a José Maria Ferreira. É uma das colectividades musicais mais antigas do país. Esteve ligada às lutas progressistas no século XIX. The film stars Steve Reeves as the titular hero and Sylva Koscina as his love interest Princess Iole. Hercules was directed by Pietro Francisci and produced by Federico Teti. The film spawned a sequel, Hercules Unchained (Italian: Ercole e la Regina di Lidia), that also starred Reeves and Koscina. Hercules made Reeves an international film star and effectively paved the way for the dozens of 1960s sword and sandal flicks featuring oily bodybuilders as mythological heroes and gladiators battling monsters, despots, and evil queens. The film's Italian title means "The Labors of Hercules". The film's screenplay is loosely based upon the myths of Hercules and the Greek epic poem Argonautica by Apollonius of Rhodes.
