Felt was a 1980s UK indie band hailing from Birmingham, led by enigmatic Lawrence Hayward (or, just Lawrence for preference), and usually included guitarist Maurice Deebank. The band claimed to have released ten albums and ten singles in ten years but actually released 11 singles if you include their debut Index on Shanghai Packaging. They were influenced by, among others, New York band Television and 60s icon Bob Dylan. Forming in 1979, Felt never broke through to the mainstream, but enjoyed a substantial cult following. Throughout the early 1980s, Felt released a number of oblique, minimalistic guitar pop gems. In 1986 they broke through with the single Primitive Painters (featuring the Cocteau Twins Elizabeth Fraser), and the album Forever Breathes The Lonely Word. Here, Haywards trademark melodic songs are matched by a fuller sound - catchy organ lines from Martin Duffy (now with Primal Scream) and Deebanks cascading guitars feature throughout. Following this, releases in 1987 of Poem Of The River, in 1988 of The Pictorial Jackson Review, and in 1989 of Me And A Monkey On The Moon, cemented Felts cult following and reputation, before Hayward split the band up to pursue 70s-influenced project, Denim, and subsequently Go-Kart Mozart. Felts influence continues to reverberate in the music of current bands like Belle and Sebastian who have acknowledged their admiration.. + Informações

Jakarta, Indonesia -- A massive earthquake struck off the coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra on Wednesday afternoon, triggering a tsunami alert for the Indian Ocean. The quake struck about 434 kilometers (270 miles) southwest of Banda Aceh, the capital of Indonesia's Aceh province, and had a magnitude of 8.6, the US Geological Survey said. It took place at a depth of 23 kilometers (14 miles). The tremor revived fearful memories of the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami in the region in 2004 that killed tens of thousands of people. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said Wednesday that it had issued a tsunami watch for the entire Indian Ocean, and the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said it had put up a tsunami warning. The Indonesian president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, said on local television that there were no reports of casualties or damage in Aceh so far. The areas most at risk of a tsunami are coastal areas of Aceh, particularly the island of Simeulue, Prih Harjadi, an official for the Indonesian geophysics agency said on Metro TV. The earthquake appears to have involved a horizontal movement rather than a vertical movement, so it is less likely that it will generate a tsunami, said Gary Gibson from the Seismology Research Center in Melbourne, Australia. The residents of Permai Ria apartments in Tanjung Bungah, Penang had to run for their safety upon feeling the earthquake tremor around 4pm today. The tremor that was felt in Penang was inflicted by the 8.7 magnitude on the Richter scale earthquake recorded off the west coast of Aceh, which triggered a tsunami alert for surrounding areas including Penang. According to one of the residents, she was watching television when she felt the tremor, which lasted close to 10 minutes and made her panic. She had run out of the apartment for her safety. Almost when the panicked resident was settling down, another tremor was felt around 6.47pm. The residents had to escape through the stairwell and gather in apartment lawn. The earthquake triggered a tsunami alert in Penang and people were cordoned of from them beach area. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration had earlier estimated that tsunami waves would arrive in Georgetown, Penang and Port Dickson at 1311 GMT and 1743GMT (9.11pm tonight and 1.43am tomorrow local time). However, this warning was later lifted by the centre, which stated that the tsunami threat had diminished in most areas. The US Geological Survey reported that the quake was centred 33km beneath the ocean floor, around 495km from the provincial capital of Banda Aceh.
