Band Aid, whose members comprises some of the well-known acts in the industry, was founded by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in 1984 in order to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia. "Do They Know It's Christmas" was recorded no more than 24 hours on the 25th of November 1984 and was released on December 3, selling a million copies on its first week alone and stayed at the top of the charts for five weeks. Then came the "Live Aid" concert held on July 13, 1985. One of the biggest ever. Held in different venues around the world, an estimated 1.5 billion viewers, across 100 countries, watched the live broadcast generating millions for the relief effort. Merry Christmas.
