Steven Gene Wold, AKA Seasick Steve, is the real deal. A well travelled, educated and likeable man with the stories, tattoos and music to prove it. Essentially, Steve is an American blues musician, but with his personalised guitars/instruments constructed from cigar boxes and not one has a complete set of strings. Seasick has developed this unique sound into something relevant for today's ears with a trademark sound like no other. Following the release of Blues Funeral back in February, Mark Lanegan Band have recorded four songs for the thirteenth installment in the 4AD Sessions series. Pull Studios in Manhattan's Hudson Square played understated host to a session that leans heavily on Mark's indelible voice and undeniable presence, as well as the intensity and precision of his band. Filmed during a break in rehearsals for a New York City show that was to herald the release of the album, the session captures a band fully sharpened and itching to hit the road (US dates begin May 10 and are listed below). Tearing through four stand-out tracks from Blues Funeral, the performance ripples with a quiet fury that will be familiar to all those who've followed Mark over a career spanning more than two decades. Backed by a band as skilled as Mark is charismatic, the ambitious range of tracks such as 'Harborview Hospital' sit comfortably beside the barely concealed rage of 'The Gravedigger's Song', reminding once again why Blues Funeral is such a rewarding listen. Unlike other sessions in the series in which a firmly defined visual concept was central to capturing the performance, the intention here was to strip away any studio trickery in order to allow the band to stand-alone. Chase from "The Blues Brothers" filmed at, and inside Dixie Square Mall in Harvey, IL. In 1979, two years after Dixie Square closed, the mall would be remodeled to appear like an operational shopping center, and later trashed by the Bluesmobile and two Illinois State Police cars for the 1980 Universal Pictures' cult favorite "The Blues Brothers". You will notice a few differences in the mall's appearance between the movie and Dixie's days as an active shopping center: -Most notably, the Walgreens Drug Store was dressed as a Toys R Us toy store. Walgreens was one of many stores that refused to be seen in the movie (guess they didnt want to take the "Drive-Thru Pharmacy" to the next level). These stores would be dressed as local businesses or not seen at all. -JEWEL is seen with a mall entrance, however there was never an actual mall entrance to the grocery store. The entrance used was the former JCPenney. The fruit stands hit by the IL Trooper car are still inside Penneys against the northwest wall. -Penney's is seen with newer "JCPenney" signage. When the store was open it never used the JCPenney signage. -Woolworth was dressed-up as the Depatso Oldsmobile dealership for the movie. Not seen in the movie are: Block D Turn*Style Block A Montgomery Ward When I visited Dixie Square in January, some artifacts dating back to the mall's days as a Hollywood set were still there. Just a simple arrangement of Robert Johnson's classic 'Cross Roads Blues' (also known as Crossroads) played on my 5 string cigar box guitar the 'Rain Man" that I pieced together with a Piezo Transducer taped inside and tuned it to open G. Some people claim this song is about Robert Johnson meeting the devil at the Crossroads and selling his soul in exchange for greater skills at playing the guitar.... I just always liked the sound of delta blues.... There are a billion cover versions of this song....so I thought I would add mine to the list Eric Clapton turned this delta blues song into a rock and roll classic with his band Cream back in the late 1960s with a great arrangement built around a very different guitar riff and with some lyrics borrowed from another Robert Johnson song called "Traveling Riverside Blues". + Informações
