480. The Hong Kong Welsh Male Voice Choir (Original) 2.50 min. | 4.111111 avaliação | 10817 exibições Several members of the Hong Kong Welsh Choir recently attended a Noson Lawen held by the Hong Kong St. David's Society, singing some songs from our repertoire, with a number of us also doing individual performances. There were songs performed not only in English and Welsh but also in Chinese, Italian and Tagalog. For my first performance at this venue I sang a solo version of a song that I was asked to write for the 30th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Welsh Male Voice Choir. Lyrics: With the songs of mine and chapel, With Myfanwy and Yvory With Gwahoddiad and Calon Lan, We come to tell our story, Men from every walk of life, Some are young and some are hoary, To bring music from Wales, the land of song. From the Hong Kong Cultural Centre To the Cathedral of St John From Angeles in the Philippines To the city of Saigon May the spirit of Jack Edwards Ever guide us on, The Welsh Male Voice Choir of Hong Kong. From the Opera House in Sydney To London's Albert Hall From carols at Helena May To the St David's Society Ball Armed with airs and melodies We'll answer to the call To bring the world our joyful brand of song. From the Safari bar in Bangkok To the Old China Hand, Our glasses raised in fellowship, Together we will stand, Our voices raised in harmony In many a foreign land, The Welsh Male Voice Choir of Hong Kong. Notes: Myfanwy, Yvory, Gwahoddiad, Calon Lan: Well-known Welsh songs which are part of the choir's repertoire. "Some are young and some are hoary": A reference .... + Informações |

710. I Still Call Australia Home (Peter Allen) 2.30 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 10357 exibições As I'm about to fly back to Hong Kong tomorrow, I thought this was an appropriate song as I leave my native Australia yet again to lead the expat life. In particular, it was a rare chance to be accompanied by my son on the keyboard, a vintage Roland D20. Written in 1980, this song expresses the expatriate's love for his native country. Peter Allen is an Australian, but has lived in the USA for most of his career. Some Australians regard this song as excessively sentimental and more typical of American culture rather than the traditional Australian attitude of "No worries. mate. She'll be right!" To others it is a beautiful and moving song about love of one's country. It has been taken up by QANTAS, Australia's international airline, for use in their commercials, where it is sung by the QANTAS Choir, which actually comprises the National Boys Choir of Australia and the Australian Girls Choir. (They changed "Rio" to "Rome" though, as QANTAS doesn't fly to Rio!) It is also often sung by Welsh Male Voice Choirs, including the Hong Kong Welsh Male Voice Choir, of which I am proud to be a member. (The above information is adapted from Wikipedia.) You can see a playlist of my Australian songs here: www.youtube.com For lyrics and chords of all my songs, please see my website: www.raymondcrooke.com. + Informações |

Rhos Male Voice Choir -- Music From The Welsh Mines 1957 10.12 min. | 4.965517 avaliação | 49088 exibições The Rhos Male Voice Choir, recorded 4 May 1957 in St. Mark's Church, St. Johns Wood, London; conducted by Edward Jones, with John Tudor Davies, organ; issued on a Delyse Recording Company long-play disc, number ECB3142. The selections presented here are-- 1) Llef, a hymn in which the poet asks for the strength of Jesus to guide him through the wilderness; 2) Ar Doriad Dydd, a song that begins with the lover meeting his beloved at dawn, full of life and joy, but ends with the lover bewailing the death of his beloved; 3) Laudamus (Bryn Calfaria), a hymn of praise to the sacrifice of the cross, the blood making conquerors of the weak and overcoming the might of giants. Rhos is short for Rhosllannerchrugog, the Heath of Heathery Moorland, having a population then of approximately 11000, almost entirely Welsh-speaking. The members of the Choir embody two traditions generally associated with Wales-- mining and singing. Singing in the Land of Song was already a distinctive tradition 900 years ago. Giraldus Cambrensis-- Gerald of Wales-- writing during the twelfth century about Welsh music, says, "In their musical concerts they do not sing in unison like the inhabitants of other countries, but in many different parts; so that in a company of singers, which one very frequently meets with in Wales, you will hear as many different parts and voices as there are performers, who will at length unite, with organic melody, in one consonance.... And what is still more wonderful, the .... + Informações |

452. Lime Juice Tub (Traditional Australian) 2.88 min. | 4.9130435 avaliação | 3087 exibições This is a shearers song that pokes fun at newcomers who think they know how to shear a sheep, but actually don't have a clue. The first known print version appeared in "The Bulletin" in 1898 using the title, "The Whaler's Rhyme". Collector and singer, AL Lloyd, heard it while working on the Lachlan River in the early 1930s. He wrote that "this song was much sung in the woolsheds while the men were actually shearing." A "lime juice tub" is a British ship. This is my last upload for a few days as the Hong Kong Welsh Male Voice Choir will be doing a couple of charity concerts in the Phillippines. In the meantime, there are another 451 songs on my channel, some of which you probably haven't heard yet.:-) You can see a playlist of my Australian songs here: www.youtube.com For lyrics and chords, see my website: www.raymondcrooke.com. + Informações |
