Taking their rather sucessfull CPS1 arcade game Area 88 and reinventing it in the Super Nintendo hardware, Capcom made more then a mere port, just like in Ghoul'n' Ghosts. Regretfully loosing the simultaneous 2 player mode, this SNES offering offers a much more deep single player experience, with more planes, levels and giving the players the choice of which mission to tackle. Renamed UN Squadron outside of Japan, It's amusing to see that the characters and names of the anime protagonists were left unchanged. Area 88 is my favorite fighter aircraft anime and although I had played previously to having my SNES on the Amiga version, this is the definitive version of the game for me. In Stage 8 I have chosen the mission to fly into the Canyon to take on a boss that looks a lot like the Efreet plane that you can buy with $1000000 dollars. This stage features stalagmites with guns built into them and bomber airplanes. Nothing too crazy until the third stalagmite when two sets of enemies attack at the same time! When the battle takes to the sky, I get myself into some trouble when Green airplanes and the nefarious blue jets try to take me on. As I am uploading this video, another fan of UN Squadron firebot has uploaded videos of his own doing Gamer mode play. LOOK OUT GUYS. STOPPING MY FIRE IS LIKE BLOWING OUT THE SUN!!
