Now, for all of you who couldn't make the trek, here's a way (other than all those blurry youtube videos) to check out Big Black's stellar set, David Yow in all his writhing glory, or any of the 29 other bands that rocked thousands of socks off in one glorious weekend. The series kicks off on our website this Monday, January 22 with an overview of the block party and how it came to happen. Then, starting January 29, we'll begin posting band-specific clips from every set of the weekend. We don't want to give too much away about the first few posts, but you can expect to see a little old-school, some more recent faves, and even one from a band that's so new they haven't released a record on Touch and Go yet. Attempt at a microwave oven transformer arc welder. Voltage and current are fixed at 35V and 80A. Primaries draw so much that it is needed to plug them in separately behind separate 15A breakers. Weld is not the best due to not knowing proper stick welding techniques and the fact that this was made from garbage. The only things bought were the heavy duty toggle switches, electrode holder, and ply. Windings ratio for both transformers were decreased to about .3.. + Informações

I'VE UPLOADED A NEW ONE , WITH THE "BETTER" COOLING. It works fine, the in phase out phase thing they tell you, has to do with the way ac power is pulsing, it doens't matter if you get wrong, then you wil just only get 3 to 6 volts, just flip the 220 volt (or some areas 110 ). Usually they have ceramic wires in welding trafonsformers, but i just used standard VD cable. At the end it melted one of the transformers, and it shorted out, the reason was i've been constant welding for 20 minutes, and the cooling was just to small to handle all the heat, so i'll have to make a new one. it's not that hard you know!!!! At first i thought: "two microwave oven transformers :S where the hell can i find those, so i phoned the first household aplliences store i could think of, ask them if the had old microwave ovens transformers. the said yes, but you will have to remove them yourself. so said so done. build a box form 6mm trespa and 1.8mm thick plywood added a fan, and a switch. done!!! when your electrode gets stucked, the spool on the trafo virbrates extremely hard, pretty funny. I'm a pretty good welder, but with this selfbuilded creation it's very hard to keep the arc, why i do not know. if you keep safety measure in hand, then you are completely safe!! although i carey no responsibility for any kind of dismemberment or what kind of accident's (neither does Star Simpson, the autor from the website i found the idea on) www.instructables.com ps the person welding last, isn't me .... + Informações

DIY Microwave Oven Transformer (MOT) Arc Welder Unballasted microwave oven transformer (MOT) arc welder. Slight current regulation by the shunts in the transformers, I did not take them out. Peaks around 170A, welds 2mm (5/64") welding rods well.. + Informações

I built this welder from a 120v AC half HP induction motor (squirrel cage) I removed the stator from the motor and unwound the field windings I then rewound the larger windings from the motor looping them around the iron stator, I then added a secondary winding over top of the primary. I am powering the welder with 120v on the primary the secondary has an output of about 40v. The current is low but it will weld with 1/16 inch rods. If you built one of these out of a larger motor 1 hp and up also 240v you could build a much better welder then have built here. Please Do Not try this at home! Without good knowledge of electricity and safety procedures you are risking your life.. + Informações

ok this is how to convert a AC/DC arc welder in to a tig, dont quote me on my price i said after i think about it... but im really sure thats about how much he said it would cost. another thing i for got to add is yout also going to need a tig gas line like a regular gas cooled set up would use to connect to the tig torch. if you dont understand something or have any questions let me know and i'll see what i can do to help you.. enjoy!. + Informações
