Tiger Lillies Circus by Sebastiano Toma 2.90 min. | 4.839506 avaliação | 30162 exibições The "Tiger Lillies" sing about death, guilt and punishment, violently and cannily. They consure up the spirit of Tom Waits shifted to a cabaret of the thirties. You don´t know whether Martyn Jacques, singer and songwriter of the group, owes the lyrics of his songs and ballads to his good connection to heaven or to hell. Anyway the audience gets goose-flesh when he starts his trip to a long forgotten vaudeville atmosphere with his high falsetto voice, urged by the tunes of his accordion coming from far beyond, joined by his devilish mate Adrian Stout on the bass and Adrian Huge on the left over bits of his drum set.Inspired by the London cult band "Tiger Lillies", top-artists of the international variety scene unfold archaic dreams of life, love and the impossible. THE STORY OF THE LATE CHRYSANTHEMUMS (1939) -- Kiku's Triumph 3.98 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 763 exibições ***SPOILER ALERT*** Do not watch this video if you wish to avoid crucial plot details being disclosed. Mizoguchi's bittersweet coda undercuts a purportedly triumphant procession with a burgeoning sense of guilt and grief. The forward momentum of this final procession is ruthless, forcing the weak-willed Kiku onward to his preordained destiny as superstar thespian. Meanwhile, the woman that enabled his success pitifully surrenders to her own fate in a murky corner of the universe (archaic social customs prevent her from sharing her lover's glory). The director conceives Otoku's sacrifice as an act of transcendence, an ascent into immortal serenity - yet his ever-critical eye recognises the worthlessness of her deed. The film's unbearable heartache derives its strength from the absurdity of her devotion to a man who didn't love her enough until it was too late, not to mention her inability to look beyond the total subservience that's ingrained into both her gender and her class. And what lessons will have been learnt from this, her final abnegation? Kiku's mechanised bows during this agonising conclusion suggest that, despite the trauma, his own capacity to think outside the social constraints imposed upon him will remain forever curtailed. The triumph, it seems, belongs wholly to the tragedy. Extended thoughts: reehanmiah.wordpress.com. + Informações |

(Recitative: A) 02:13 - Vergib, o Vater, unsre Schuld (Aria: A) 09:47 - Wenn unsre Schuld bis an den Himmel steigt (Recitative: T) 10:33 - In der Welt habt ihr Angst (Aria: B) 12:21 - Ich will leiden, ich will schweigen (Aria: T) 16:31 - Muss ich sein betrübet? (Chorale) Soloists: Alto: Paul Esswood Tenor: Kurt Equiluz Bass: Ruud van der Meer Performed by the Tölzer Knabenchor (Chorus Master: Gerhard Schmidt-Gaden) & Concentus Musicus Wien under the direction of Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Recorded by Teldec in 1977. "Bisher habt ihr nichts gebeten in meinem Namen (BWV 87), intended for Rogation Sunday and composed in 1725, instead of dealing with the consoling aspects of the Sunday Gospel, refers to its dark and menacing traits, the guilt and fears of mankind. The composition is correspondingly grave, seeming in parts almost apocalyptic, with the keys of D, G, and C minor dominating (only the tenor aria being in B flat major). As in BWV 85 and 86, the words of Christ are set arioso, entirely polyphonically; however, the style is not archaic and motet-like but rather in the completely free form of an instrumental quartet movement, into which the bass pours his threatening pronouncements with constantly and ever differently composed repetitions. A brief but .... + Informações |

Aborted - A Methodical Overture 3.52 min. | 0 avaliação | 29 exibições Artist: Aborted (Belgium) Song: A Methodical Overture Album: Slaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture Year of release: 2007 Lyrics: An indomitable thirst to delve And propagate my surgical addiction, We have to see, we have to know Calculus of a disorder Intricate to my dismay... Methodically I purse With rusty hooks and skews Muscles are ripped from bones Such an eloquent bliss, my irreverence, insatiable quest for "knowledge" So many ways, aesthetic deeds to reset the boundaries of pain Enumeration of cadavers Casuistry mistaken for clairvoyance Epitome of human filth A mirror of masochistic guilt incarnate I excoriate My endless carnage Evisceration on demand, the emetic stench of human misery A descent into euphoria, a genocide, the path I have to take Miscalculated dysphoria, as I bear witness the hunger doesn't fade I am a pathogenic mystery, a plague restored with rage The overture, merely a glimpse of what death ensues The overture, the ending of lives so quiescent The overture, merely a glimpse of what science lingers The overture, the opening to a bloodbath so impending As life becomes... ...a reminiscence of carnal decadence, abhorrent tests In a mouldy laboratory, hemoglobin extruded From the wretched putrid life Forms ready at my grasp A reminiscence of what used to be, abhorrent crud In a mouldy laboratory, hemoglobin now obsolete The archaic abattoir, the dawn of omega An indomitable thirst to delve And propagate my addiction, We have to see, we have to .... + Informações |

Save Yong Vui Kong Moon Landing 1.52 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 178 exibições Save Yong Vui Kong Moon Landing Shouldn't the condemned convict suffer even more when they're sentenced to life imprisonment rather than mandatory death sentence? I see that they don't feel any more remorse after 5 seconds of wriggling at the end of a rope. Ain't it stupid to kill them off in this way? Its too cheap and to easy for them to pay for their crime in this way. I myself wouldn rather be hang and die straightaway rather than suffer the pain of remorsefulness and guilt for the rest of my life while being imprisoned for life for the crime I committed. Wasn't sentences supposed to be meted out for the purpose that they be made to feel remorseful for their crimes, to be re-educated about life while being imprisoned so that they be rehabilitated from their error? Where's the rehabilitation here? What's the rehabilitation here? Where's the education? What's the message here? To hang them so that their death will served as a deterrent message for future would-be-criminals? Was that what the penal code was for? To served as a deterrent? Then beheading, chopping off hands, stoning, buried alive & public whipping would be just as justified as your hanging wouldn't it? Those barbaric sentences sure works as a deterrent you know. Believe me it does. So whats the different from being beheaded, hands chopped off, stoned to death, buried alive, public whipping and being hung? No different here. They're all supposed to served as a deterrent for future would-be-criminals not to .... + Informações |

Provost Lecture - Hendrik Hartog: Old Age and Care Work 79.27 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 273 exibições "Old Age and Care Work: How to Get Paid in 19th and Early 20th Century New Jersey" Hendrik Hartog began by saying that his lecture was dedicated to the memory of his sister Vivien, who was a graduate student at Stony Brook in Women's Studies in the early 1990s until her untimely death in 1995. "The best I can tell she spent her happiest years here as a doctoral student," he said, tying her life as a mother of three and a period as a home health care worker into the themes he would go on to explore?the uncompensated labor of women in their roles as caretakers and housekeepers. He said that during her life she had many dialogues with him about this subject. His talk centered on his current project, a study of inheritance conflicts in New Jersey and how, in a time before pensions and Social Security, people used the promise of inheritance to secure care for themselves in old age. Although reform would arrive later in the 20th Century on these matters, up until that time "adult children" would have a difficult time being paid for their care of parents, siblings, spouses, and other family members, especially if they lived in the same household. Judges and juries had a difficult time separating love and duty from the need for caretaker compensation and inheritance by family members unless family members guaranteed it in writing. "There was almost never a written contract" and all judges and juries had to go on was "narratives of work done." On the flip side of that argument .... + Informações |

17. Cormac McCarthy, Blood Meridian 50.22 min. | 4.775758 avaliação | 70625 exibições The American Novel Since 1945 (ENGL 291) In this first of two lectures on Blood Meridian, Professor Hungerford walks us through some of the novel's major sources and influences, showing how McCarthy engages both literary tradition and American history, and indeed questions of origins and originality itself. The Bible, Moby-Dick, Paradise Lost, the poetry of William Wordsworth, and the historical narrative of Sam Chamberlain all contribute to the style and themes of this work that remains, in its own right, a provocative meditation on history, one that explores the very limits of narrative and human potential. 00:00 - Chapter 1.
