Various situations were set up to develop the forces' experience and foster leadership talents just in case of an attack. The forces known as the Free Syrian Army, have 20000 fighters, and are armed and funded by Qatar, DEBKAfile reported. The Doha-funded army has been mobilized in the form of military battalions and brigades in bases in Syria's northern neighbor, Turkey. The measure comes after Qatar was also involved in the ousting of former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, according to the report. The Qatari and Saudi rulers approved the program for the Qatari chief of staff Major General Hamas Ali al-Attiya to join the anti-Assad army for rapid deployment on the Turkish-Syrian border. According to the report, so far a total number of 2500 troops have been recruited. The hard core is made up of 1000 members of the Islamic Fighting Group in Libya, which fought Gaddafi, and 1000 operatives of the Ansar al-Sunna, the Iraqi Islamists that reportedly carried out 15 coordinated bomb attacks in Baghdad last Thursday. Thompson joined Tri-County Central Labor Council (CLC) leaders John Wagner and Bill Crooks and dozens of workers and community members for the protest. "We are going to do everything we can to make certain our folks get out and vote because this election is too important to turn back the tide," added Thompson. During the course of writing my book I came across a picture of the world's most wanted terrorist, Osama bin Laden. Something about his face intrigued me, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Then I remembered. A few days earlier I had been looking at pictures of the face of the man on the shroud of Turin and had noticed the same distinctive curvatures on either side of the mustache. Curious, I brought up the image on my computer and sure enough, the similarities were striking. Both Osama and the face on the shroud had the same nose and cheek structures, as well as identical mustaches and beards. Their foreheads were the same height and their eye brows were arched in perfect unison. The more I studied the pictures, the more curious I became. I decided to take bin Laden's image, scale it to size, and superimpose it over the face of the man on the shroud. As I toggled down the opacity of bin Laden's face to reveal the image on the shroud beneath it, I saw something quite amazing?the features of both registered flawlessly. Recently I heard about a computer aided identification system that matches the mug shots of criminals with the images captured by video cameras surveying crowds in the world's largest cities. In Great Britain, operators of thousands of closed-circuit TV cameras explore the streets for possible suspects and known criminals. The Sacramento media, led by KCRA and Fox 40, initially portrayed the Pearcys as being unpatriotic for using their home to display the powerful anti-war message. The media and conservatives initially referred to the display as an "effigy" even though the soldier was clearly depicted as a victim of an unjust war. Conservative talk radio and TV hosts incited right-wing listeners and viewers to go to the Pearcys' home and take action to intimidate them. When the media's spectacle over the display reached its peak, right-wing vandals were emboldened. In broad daylight, as TV cameras rolled, vandals climbed onto the Pearcys' home and destroyed and stole their displays. Up to six displays were unlawfully taken. TV news crews from Fox 40 even interviewed some of the vandals while the crimes were being committed and asked them if they'd like to pass along any messages to the Pearcys. It took the efforts of many actors in the public, civil society and international community to push for new constitutional dispensation. The fight was tight such that some senior politicians such as Kalonzo Musyoka could not decide which side to support. This led to VP Mr. Kalonzo to be referred to as Watermelon. The anti-G20 protesters and Oxfam were there with a strong message for politicians. With the G20 summit in Cannes on the horizon, protesters and police forces alike were gearing up on Monday. Police forces trained with units arriving from all over France, to secure the G20 summit in neighboring Cannes this week.
