Great Depression: Anson Weeks Orch.- You're so and so, 1932 2.25 min. | 4.90625 avaliação | 7826 exibições Anson Weeks and the Nob Hill Hotel Dance Band - You're so and so, Brunswick 1932 Oakland-born Anson Weeks was king of Nob Hill hotel dance bands during the 1920s and 30s, with a long run at Hotel Mark Hopkins. He formed his first band in 1924, and played in many famed Oakland and Sacramento hotels. In 1925, his band cut a test disc in Oakland for Victor Talking Machine Co., but, apparently, Victor executives failed to offer a contract, and the recording of "New Moon" was never issued. By the late 1920s the Anson Weeks orchestra was increasingly popular along the West Coast, because of nightly radio broadcasts from Hotel Mark Hopkins, for KFRC, and NBCs West Coast network. His "Lucky Strike Magic Carpet" radio program was broadcast coast-to-coast from the Mark on NBC during 1931. + Informações |

ANN SHERIDAN~Oooomph Girl! Anson Weeks~If I Had a Girl Like YOU~Mark Hopkins Hotel Orchestra 3.23 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 764 exibições My Friends and Visitors, today, I present a photo montage of Ann Sheridan, The Ooooomph Girl! Ann Sheridan born Clara Lou Sheridan in Denton, Texas on February 21, 1915, she was a student at the University of North Texas when her sister sent a photograph of her to Paramount Pictures. She subsequently entered and won a beauty contest, with part of her prize being a bit part in a Paramount film. She abandoned college to pursue a career in Hollywood. She made her film debut in 1934, aged 19, in the film Search for Beauty, and played uncredited bit parts in Paramount films for the next two years. Paramount made little effort to develop Sheridan's talent, so she left, signing a contract with Warner Bros. in 1936, and changing her name to "Ann Sheridan." Sheridan's career prospects began to improve. She received as many as 250 marriage proposals from fans in a single week.[1] Tagged "The Oomph Girl," Sheridan was a popular pin-up girl in the early 1940s. Music is Anson Weeks and the Mark Hopkins Hotel Orchestra~ If I Had a Girl Like YOU. + Informações |
