Cairns Ukulele Festival 2010 - 'Because' (Guy d' Hardelot) James Hill, Anne Davison cello & Josh Bell (Old spice Boys) on snare drum. For me, & also James, this song has a story. Last year I went to the Italian UkeFest & while I was researching it I came across the laid-back version of Because that James did in a restaurant near Vicenza. (posted by Daniela from Aquila Strings) I fell for the song instantly. Nowhere could I find the chords despite intense research. I printed out the lyrics & took them along to one of the James Hill workshops at Cairns UkeFest. (lyrics now signed by James) I see a bunch of great folk at UU have been trying to figure the chords too. To my total amazement & utter swooning delight, at the final concert James & Anne went on to perform this great song. I was ecstatic! So here's the video ... enjoy! "light forms, 2002 8 mm color & black and white film transferred to video 16 minutes, sound. exhibition: lightforms, singuhr - hoergalerie in parocial, berlin germany, 2002 light forms is a film/sound work created for the singuhr - hoergalerie in parocial space. the space is a baroque church in berlin's mitte district and exhibitions take place in the bell room, the nave, and sometimes the main chappel of the parochial church. the location inspired me to work with source materials related to light and bells. the film work was created using a super 8 camera i have had since childhood. the 16 minute film uses color imagery created with colored lightbulbs and construction paper following the colored paths of various 1880's bell ringing scores of jasper snowdon; and black and white images of my hands "speaking" the phrase "truth is the bell, bell is the truth" using a self invented method of translating the alphabet into a series of hand movements. all of the audio was created using the sounds of light bulbs. the space was lit only by the light of the monitor as well as two small shafts of natural light on either end of the space. the audio was installed on 4 speaker in two opposite rooms with the film showing in between. the following text accompanied the exhibition: in 1997, i was in sheffield england, sleeping in a small room in the home of saxaphone player mick beck. it was raining rather loudly, and i woke up out of a dead sleep in the middle of the night and wrote down .... + Informações

Virtually unknown mid-60s Jazz /Soul belter from the Iris Bell Trio, featuring young Jazz drummer Butch Miles who played, sang and wrote this song. Miles later played with such artists as Mel Tormé, Count Basie, Sammy Davis Jr. & Frank Sinatra. Bandleader and piano player Iris Bell passed away in 2008, aged 74. Mr. Miles kindly provided me this information: " (...) it was released on the Cadillac Records label - a very small company in Michigan. I wrote and sang it and the personnel were me on vocal and drums, Iris Bell on piano and her husband Derek Pierson on bass. Both Ms Bell and Mr. Pierson have passed on. We recorded it during an extended (years) engagement at a night club in Ann Arbor, Michigan called the Rubiyat. We might have sold a few hundred copies (if that many) mostly to some fans, our friends and families. I don't recall it being a major hit recording on American radio. I'm not even sure of the year. Might have been 1969 or 1970. I don't really remember. I do believe that it was our first record though and we followed up with a self-produced album. Ah memories.
