Zeca Baleiro recuperou músicas perdidas de Sérgio Sampaio, o mais "maldito" dos artistas da MPB dos anos 70. Comparando-se com Sampaio, Raul Seixas se considerava careta. Se há um músico brasileiro que merece o adjetivo "maldito" é o capixaba Sérgio Sampaio. Descoberto por Raul Seixas, em 1972, Sampaio emplacou seu único sucesso nacional, com Eu quero botar o meu bloco na rua. Além de um álbum com Raul Seixas, Miriam Batucada e Edy Starr, ele fez um compacto de dois LPs. Problemas pessoais, mau relacionamento com gravadoras, escantearam Sérgio Sampaio para a margem do show business. No início de 1994, ele pretendia gravar Cruel, seu primeiro CD, pelo selo paulistano Baratos & Afins. Em maio, Sérgio Sampaio morreu em conseqüência de uma pancreatite. Em 1997, Zeca Baleiro foi um dos artistas que participaram do CD-tributo Balaio do Sampaio. Sérgio Natureza (amigo e parceiro de Sérgio Sampaio) passou para Baleiro um cassete com oito composições inéditas para que ele escolhesse uma para gravar. Zeca Baleiro preferiu cantar Tem que acontecer, que dá nome ao segundo LP de Sérgio Sampaio. A participação no disco fez com que ele fizesse amizade com Ângela, ex-mulher, e João, filho de Sérgio Sampaio. Dela recebeu a fita original do disco que o artista deixou incompleto.
