Towering Monument to Hindu God Vishnu Angkor Wat, Cambodia (1113 - 1145 CE) Hidden deep in the impenetrable jungle of Cambodia, the mighty temple of Angkor Wat is a humbling representation of the Hindu universe. A usurper king who seizes the throne by murdering his great uncle, King Suryavarman II seeks to justify his absolute power over the enormous Khmer Empire with a towering monument to Hindu god Vishnu. I rented a bicycle from my hotel and rode the 8km to get to Angkor Wat... and then completely underestimated how big it was and ended up riding about 15 or 20 km around the roads visiting other temples. Plus another 8km to get back to my hotel after sunset. I literally collapsed on my hotel bed when I finally made it back. If you're wondering, I did come back the next day to see more, but I rode in a tuk tuk with some French and Swiss French travelers. Much much more relaxing and easier. I would recommend the bike ride but with a bit more planning than I did. If you know where to go and look at a map carefully, riding a bike can be a really great way to see the temples and see exactly what you want. Thank you again for watching and commenting.
