This is a series of videos that looks at each step of Joseph Campbell's "Hero's Journey" from his book The Hero with a Thousand Faces. My goals are; 1- Explain Campbell's definition of each step 2- Talk about the concept in detail 3- Show the examples he gives 4- Point out some examples I found on my own 5- Read one detailed example (This time it's from Mark Twain's Connecticut Yankee) 6- See where George Lucas used the step in Star Wars 6- Try to find clips from movies that show what I'm talking about I know lots of these video clips fail to give credit to the idea of the Monomyth because they are so mainstream and overused. Hollywood writers love to cut-and-paste the Monomyth into their stories. Youtube is a visual medium so I am forced to show movie clips, so don't hold it against me. I make an exception for movies based on books or ancient myths- and for Star Wars. I think Star Wars was the last film that actually cared about the Monomyth and didn't just try to plagiarize to make money.
