Jacob Isaakszoon van Ruisdael (1628-1682) (ook gespeld als Ruysdael) Landschapschilder, geboren in Haarlem en gestorven in Amsterdam. Vanaf zijn 14e jaar in het St. Lucas schildersgilde, Jacobs talent was op jonge leeftijd al duidelijk. Zijn vader was een onfortuinlijke kunstschilder en lijstenmaker, Salomon van Ruysdael was zijn neef. Jan van Goyen heeft ook invloed gehad op zijn werk. Jacob's meest succesvolle leerling was Meindert Hobbema. Typisch aan Ruisdael zijn werk is dat het geen directe weergave is van de werkelijkheid. De landschappen zijn poëtischer, imposanter en dramatischer dan in werkelijkheid en zijn nauwkeurig gecomponeerd. "Molen van Wijk bij Duurstede"en "De Joodse begraafplaats" zijn de bekendste werken van Jacob van Ruisdael. Jacob Isaaksz. van Ruisdael (Ruysdael) was a landscape painter, famous for his realistic cloudscapes. He was a member of the guild of Saint Luke in Haarlem. Influenced by his father, his nephew Salomon van Ruysdael, Jan van Goyen and Allart van Everdingen. One of his best pupils was Meindert Hobbema. Ruisdael's favourite objects are simple woodland scenes, which he depicted with beautiful realistic cloudscapes. As a painter of trees, his rendering of foliage, particularly of oak leaf age, is characterized by the greatist spirit and precision. Current shipbuilding project The battleship De 7 Provinciën (The Seven Provinces) was built in 1664-1665 for the Admiralty of Rotterdam. It was part of a larger fleet intended to strengthen the maritime power of the Dutch in relation to the English. Under the guidance of Admiral Michiel de Ruyter, the Netherlands won a great many sea battles, including the Four Days' Battle during the Second Dutch-Anglo War. In 1694, the ship was sold and scrapped because of its old age. The aim of building De 7 Provinciën is to make as authentic a reconstruction as possible of this 17th-century battleship, using existing source materials. Castles, country estates and canal-side houses still provide us with a glimpse of how some people lived in those days, but these key ships have all been lost. Reconstruction is an appealing way of reviving the past. Construction drawings were not part of the building process in the 17th century, but using specifications (= construction descriptions) and the paintings of Willem van de Velde, it is possible to get very close to historical reality. The reconstruction of this 17th-century ship is one of the largest historical shipbuilding projects in the world. The character of this legendary battleship will be in complete contrast to that of the Batavia, a trading ship. Al op jonge leeftijd was Age geïnteresseerd in de muziek en speelde hij in allerlei bandjes zoals "The Beathunters" en "The Mads". In het voorjaar van 1996 deed hij mee aan het Noord-Nederlands-Liedjesfestival en schreef voor die gelegenheid zijn eerste Groningstalig nummer "Mien Oosterpoort", de woonwijk waar hij als kind opgroeide. Daarop kwamen uitnodigingen van om de regionale omroep RTV-Noord. Bijna alle teksten en muziek schrijft hijzelf. Gender differences in depression in 23 European countries. Cross-national variation in the gender gap in depression Sarah Van de Velde, Piet Bracke and Katia Levecque While the gender gap in depression is well-established, comparative research on the topic is still scarce. In the current study, we examine depression among men and women aged 18-75 in 23 European countries. Our results indicate that women report higher levels of depression than men do in all countries, but there is significant cross-national variation in this gender gap. Gender differences in depression are largest in some of the Eastern and Southern European countries and smallest in Ireland, Slovakia and some Nordic countries. While both socioeconomic and family-related factors moderate the relationship between gender and depression, the first have the strongest association with depression in both men and women in the majority of countries.
