Adrian Rollini "Bei Mir Bist Du Schön" (1938) 3.23 min. | 4.935484 avaliação | 15515 exibições "Bei Mir Bist Du Schön" ("Sheyn") Music and Original Lyrics: Sholom Secunda and Jacob Jacobs English Lyrics by Sammy Cahn and Saul Chaplin Performed by Adrian Rollini Quintet Recorded January 18, 1938, New York Personnel: Bobby Hackett - trumpet Frank Victor - guitar Harry Clark - string bass Buddy Rich - drums Adrian Rollini - vibraphone Vocal - Sonny Schuyler (aka Sunny Skylar) The melody was originally written by New York composer Sholom Secunda in 1932 for a Yiddish musical comedy "I Would if I Could". The Yiddish words were written by Jacob Jacobs. JJ Kammen Music Publishers asked Secunda to sell them his copyright, which he did for the sum of $30. A few years later, Sammy Cahn heard the Yiddish version performed and envisioned a swing version with English lyrics. Harms Music Publisher purchased the rights and published the English version with the now familiar lyrics of Sammy Cahn and Saul Chaplin. The Andrews Sisters recorded it on November 24, 1937 and it became their first successful hit, and a Gold Record, the first ever to a female vocal group. Fortunately for Secunda, he was able to receive a share of the royalties.. + Informações |

St Louis Blues - Adrian Rollini 1937 6.23 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1868 exibições St Louis Blues - Rollini Adrian 1937 Richard Himber had one of the top "sweet" dancebands of the 1930s. Previously, he was first violinist for Rudy Vallee's Connecticut Yankees, and it was Vallee who encouraged and financed (a gift, not a loan) Himber's first orchestra. Himber's orchestra usually played in the most prestigious hotels and ballrooms and had access to the topflight musicians of his era - for recordings, if not for routine, nightly performances. Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey, Bunny Berigan, Blue Barron, and other future bandleading notables are among the sidemen. In this film Mr Himber is filmed in three clips from 1937. In the last clip the famous Adrian Rollini (on xylophone) trio is featured together with the quartet of violinist Wladimir Selinsky. Adrian Rollini (1904-1954) was a child prodigy on piano; at age four he played a recital at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel (34th sreet and 5th Avenue) in New York. He led his own band at age 14 and began playing with the California Ramblers in the early 1920s. The California Ramblers were one of the most recorded bands of the 1920s. The band also featured Red Nichols, Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey. The California Ramblers played popular tunes of the day with a Jazz influence. While in that band Rollini developed his distinctive style of bass saxophone playing. He played in Red Nichols' Five Pennies and appeared on many of Red's recording sessions. He also worked with Frankie Trumbauer and his Orchestra and recorded with Cliff .... + Informações |

Adrian Rollini Orchestra, Chick Bullock vocal - A Hundred Years From Today (1934) 3.05 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1099 exibições Adrian Francis Rollini (June 28, 1903 - May 15, 1956) was a multi-instrumentalist best known for his jazz music. He played the bass saxophone, piano, xylophone, and many other instruments. Rollini is also known for introducing the goofus in jazz music. His major recordings included "You've Got Everything" (1933) on Banner, "A Thousand Good Nights" (1934) on Vocalion, "Davenport Blues" (1934) on Decca, "Nothing But Notes", "Tap Room Swing", "Jitters", "Riverboat Shuffle" (1934) on Decca, and "Small Fry" (1938) on CBS. He cut many sides under the California Ramblers and formed two subgroups - The Little Ramblers (starting in 1924) and the Goofus Five (1926-1927). It was during his work with these groups that he developed his distinctive style of saxophone playing. During this time, he managed to lay down hundreds of sessions with names like Annette Hanshaw, Cliff Edwards (Ukelele Ike), Joe Venuti and his Blue Four, The University Six, Miff Mole, and Red Nichols to name a few. Some of his best work appears on the sides he cut with Bix Biederbecke. He also recorded and worked with Roger Wolfe Kahn, Frank Trumbauer, and Red Nichols. 1927 was a landmark year for jazz and Rollini, as not only did he participate in numerous sides, but he also got the job heading up the talent roster for the opening of the Club New Yorker. It was a short-lived organization, a who's-who of 1920s jazz, including Bix Beiderbecke, Eddie Lang, Joe Venuti, Frank Signorelli and Frank Trumbauer. From .... + Informações |
