One participant was Adrian Campbell Montgomery. The young mother told the crowd about her battles with cancer. At 22 she was diagnosed with cervical cancer, but was denied a common treatment because she was too young. The surgery doctors wanted for her was only recommended was patients 26-years-old or older. Montgomery was able to recover, but 4 years later she is still in debt from the treatments. Montgomery, who has no health insurance, has also been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She says the diagnoses alone has already put her another $10000 in debt. Montgomery's wasn't the only story told at today's forum. A nurse told the crowd that while she is fully insured her son isn't covered. These White House forums are designed to help the President's staff prepare a health care reforms, with the idea to have a package ready for his signature by the fall. Today's event was hosted by Governor Jennifer Granholm and Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle. A nice, funny boy with an infectious smile is how friends are remembering Adrian Johnston, who just more than a week ago was gunned down in Toronto at the age of 14. Mourners gathered in Welland Tuesday, where the teens mother has family, to pay last respects at All People's United Church. Adrian, the 18th homicide victim in Toronto this year, was later laid to rest next to his grandmother at an undisclosed local cemetery. I just knew him from around, I played basketball with him, said Adrian Christian. He was a funny kid. I came to pay my respects, Ive lost a lot of friends ... this one touched me the most. He was only 14 years old ... young. He said the violence in Toronto has to stop ? and the only way the violence can end is if the guns are taken off the streets. Its got to stop, he was just going to high school ... no matter the reason for it, its not right, he said outside the church. Im graduating. He didnt get to finish high school, college or university ... anything like that. Its just not right."
