THE AD-LIBS - HE AIN'T NO ANGEL 2.87 min. | 4.6363635 avaliação | 2606 exibições Sixties New York girl group Doo Wop sound. Not strictly Northern Soul but great all the same. Very similar to the groups big hit - The Boy From New York City and recorded for the same logo - BLUE CAT. Hope you enjoy.. The Ad-Libs story began in the mid-1950's in Bayonne, New Jersey. At first, the group was called the Arabians and sang street corner acappella. The original group consisted of Hugh Harris, Danny Austin, John Alan, David Allen Watt, Jr. and James Wright. As the Creators, the group recorded "I'll Never Never Do It Again" for the T-Kay label out of Brooklyn. Later that year, they recorded "Yeah He's Got It" for the Philips label who also released the seasonal standard, "I Stayed Home (New Years Eve)" as the Creators' third and final release. During this time, Dave Waats entered the Army and was replaced by Chris Coles, formerly the bass of the Roamers on Savoy. By 1964, the group consisted of Hugh Harris, Danny Austin, David Watt and Norman Donegan. Donegan began singing with a church group called the Buds of Promise. Norman and David Watt grew up together and when Watt got out of the service, he brought Donegan into the group. The group then discovered Mary Ann Thomas singing with another group at the Fabian Theater in Hoboken and persuaded her to join their group as lead. With the new female lead, the group changed names to the Ad-Libs. John Taylor wrote "The Boy From New York City" for the group, while they were rehearsing on a rooftop, overlooking the .... + Informações |

The Ad-Libs - The Boy From New York City 2.97 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 4814 exibições PLEASE NOTE: I divided my uploads between multiple channels, Bookmark this link in your browser for instant access to an index with links to all of John1948's oldies classics. LINK: tinyurl.com The Ad Libs were an early-'60s vocal group from New Jersey whose female lead vocals and male-voiced backing prefigured the jazzy doo wop singing style of several later groups, including Manhattan Transfer. They scored a major hit in early 1965 with "The Boy From New York City," written by John T. Taylor, a saxophone player who had worked with various big band groups as far back as the '30s. By the early '60s, John T. Taylor had quit playing music and had turned his attention to teaching. During this time, he heard a young Hudson County quintet who were calling themselves the Creators. The group consisted of Hugh Harris, Danny Austin, James Wright, John Alan, and Chris Coles. By mid-1963, the Creators had released their first record on the TR label without any chart success. A single for the Phillips label, "I'll Stay Home," met the same fate a year later. The group re-formed in 1964 in Newark, NJ. Dave Watt and Norman Donegan replaced departing members Wright, Alan, and Coles, and they added a female lead vocalist, Mary Ann Thomas. A new name was needed, and thereafter they began calling themselves the Ad Libs. By now, Taylor's jazz-inflected songwriting along with the Ad Libs' natural harmonies created a sound like no other group. This was best personified on the upbeat piano .... + Informações |

Martin and Lewis - End of show ad-lib 3.77 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 22044 exibições From October 15th, 1950 - Sometimes I think (unfortunately) that their ad-libs - when they end the show with a few extra minutes to kill - are somewhat scripted (especially when they just happen to have perfect props laying nearby). But this end of show stretch definately took Dean and Jerry by surprise. They had no material whatsoever prepared for an emergency like that, but they showed their true live talents with lightning fast ad-libbing. I laughed so hard I nearly choked on my lemonade!. + Informações |
