I recently took the family out to God's Acre at Healing Springs, SC. If you are not from the South Carolina Lowcountry, you might not have heard about Healing Springs, better known as "God's Acre," but then again, maybe you have. You see, this place draws alot of visitors and tourists as well as droves of local folks who make the weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly trek to Healing Springs, just outside of Blackville, SC on Hwy 3, heading north, to fill up their water jugs with the legendary natural healing springs water. The healing waters there are truly legendary, and are now a part of the history of the area. The story is told of a Revolutionary soldier who was in the area fighting with his regiment. He was shot, along with some other soldiers, and was left for dead. The legend is told that Native Americans took the soldier to the waters of the healing springs area, and after the soldier recovered, he returned to his regiment in Charleston, SC. His fellow soldiers were truly shocked, not having any hope that he could have even survived! He told them about the healing waters, which helped to heal him, and how the Indians in the area revered the waters for their healing. The land for Healing Springs is actually deeded to God, and that is why it is now called "God's Acre".
