Dreamtime of the Aborigines - Ancient Civilizations 6.27 min. | 4.7647057 avaliação | 5188 exibições www.thehistoryexplorer.com The first inhabitants of Australia and keepers of the oldest continuous culture in the world, Aboriginal Australians have a rich and often mysterious civilization that we are only just starting to understand and appreciate. Aboriginal Australian culture dates back over 60000 years to a period known in Aboriginal-English as the Dreamtime, but every one of the numerous Aboriginal nation groups spread across the continent and beyond has their own term for it, from Laliya spoken in the Kimberley region to Wongar in northeast Arnhem Land. Archaeological studies have revealed much about human origins in Australia, but it is the Dreamtime stories -- passed down by oral tradition -- that provide the most fascinating insight into this ancient civilization.. + Informações |

Didgeridoo 1.82 min. | 4.912088 avaliação | 118583 exibições Download on iTunes: itunes.apple.com www.discoverysound.com Acid | Rex2 | Wav Australia's native inhabitants, the Aborigines, converse with the spirits through this sacred, unique instrument. This library will imbue your music with a sound thats undeniably Australian. The 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney made a vivid and lasting impression of aboriginal culture on the world. Then came the record-breaking television series Survivor, the Austrlian Outback. These global broadcasts brought the rich sound of the Australian Aborigines to the mainstream. The didgeridoo is made from cutting a 1-2 meter section of a eucalyptus tree that has been hollowed out by hungry termites. Its performance consists of vibrating the lips while employing a circular breathing technique that causes the inside of the performer's mouth, as well as the inside of the instrument, to resonate. This dual sound is incredibly mysterious, and is captured perfectly on this popular collection. Laughing at Aborigines? - Tough Questions for QUT... 9.12 min. | 3.6538463 avaliação | 9881 exibições An Aboriginal woman - filmed in compromising circumstances in Boulia by PhD candidate Michael Noonan - claims she never signed a consent form and has suffered anxiety for the past 18 months not knowing where the filmed material might appear (as of August 2007 this material was posted on the internet by the Courier Mail newspaper on its website). Following the woman's request, Aboriginal Elder, Ted Watson speaks out on her behalf. The Aboriginal woman's portrayal as a negative racial stereotype has outraged many people in the Australian Indigenous Community including some prominent figures who will soon be voicing their concerns on Youtube. Meanwhile Peter Coaldrake, the Vice Chancellor of QUT, has vigorously defended all ethical aspects of the PhD project which was originally entitled "Laughing at the Disabled: Creating Comedy which Confronts, Offends and Entertains." Earlier in 2007, Coaldrake suspended two senior lecturers: Dr. Gary Maclennan and Dr. John Hookham for publicly voicing their concern about possible violation of ethical protocols in the thesis film which forms part of Noonan's PhD research.. + Informações |

Historic Apology for Aborigines 2.18 min. | 3.6666667 avaliação | 5143 exibições WONG: Australian politicians and dignitaries gathered at Parliament House on Tuesday to mark the official opening of the 42nd Parliament with a first-ever welcome ceremony by Aboriginal elders. The indigenous ceremony comes a day before the prime minister is due to deliver a historic apology to the 'Stolen Generation'. STORY: Aborigines playing didgeridoos and smeared with white body paint made history. They became the first Indigenous Australians ever to take part in the opening of the nation's new parliamentary session. Aboriginal elder Matilda House delivered a traditional message to mark the first sitting of parliament since Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's Labor Party won power in last November's elections. [Matilda House, Aboriginal elder]: "Our nation is marked by great success and honorable deeds and some not so. Some made right and some yet to be made right, like tomorrow's apology." Rudd told the crowd at the ceremony he wants this made a future tradition. [Kevin Rudd, Australian Prime Minister]: "We can be a bit slow sometimes, be we got here. Today we begin with one small step to set right the wrongs of the past. And in this ceremonial way, it is a significant and symbolic step. And let us resolve here, as members and senators and members of this great Parliament of the Commonwealth that whoever forms future governments of the nation, let this become a permanent part of our ceremonial celebration of the Australian democracy." A landmark report in 1997 .... + Informações |
