Johnny and his Cellar Rockers was een Nederlandse popgroep bestaande uit Hans Kuyt (piano), Jan Burgers (slaggitaar), Pierre van der Linden (drums) (opgevolgd door Sidney Wachtel), Jan Akkerman (sologitaar), Cor Engelsma (basgitaar) en Cockie Akkerman. De band maakte enkele platen met cabaretier Aart Brouwer, waaronder Hé psst! en Vies. In 1964 nam de band All my loving van The Beatles op onder de naam Close your eyes. De band gaat eind 1964 uit elkaar en Akkerman en Wachtel gaan verder in de Nederbietgroep The Hunters. Adriaen Brouwer (1605, Oudenaarde - January 1638, Antwerp) was a Flemish genre painter active in Flanders and the Dutch Republic in the seventeenth century. At a young age Brouwer, probably born as Adriaen de Brauwer, moved perhaps via Antwerp to Haarlem, where he became a student of Frans Hals alongside Adriaen van Ostade. He also was active in stage acting and poetry. He stayed in Haarlem and Amsterdam until 1631, when he moved back to Antwerp in the Spanish Netherlands. There, he became a member of the Guild of St. Luke in 1631 1632, as well as the rhetoricians's chamber De Violieren. Tradition has it that Brouwer himself spent much time in the alehouses of Flanders and Holland. His works are typically detailed and small, and often adopt themes of debauchery, drunkenness and foolishness in order to explore human emotions, expressions and responses to pain, fear and the senses. The Bitter Tonic (illustrated right) is an example of the type of work that depicts such responses, in this case the sense of taste. His work was well liked, to the point that forgeries were sold in his own time. Both Rubens and Rembrandt owned a number of his works. Nevertheless, Brouwer appeared in financial trouble throughout his life. He died at the early age of 32 in Antwerp, where he was first buried in a common grave, but, upon instigation of the members of the guild, was reburied on Feb 1, 1638 in the church of the Carmelites. to see more art work of Adriaen Brouwer,please visit:www .... + Informações

Window On Collecting Art & Antiques #4 - Theophilus Brouwer. This is episode #4 in the video series by fine artist and collector, Paul J. Katrich. Theophilus Brouwer's abilities were diverse in the extreme. He was a skilled carpenter and architect, as well as a sculptor of public monuments, living in the Long Island, NY, area. Brouwer also decided to create art pottery between 1893 and 1911, calling his studio, Middle Lane Pottery. He used some of the most unusual, complex and difficult processes possible. Brouwer developed a type of glazing which he called "Flame Painting." Remarkable iridescent flame-like effects appeared on the surfaces. A number of other complicated glazes and techniques were developed at his hands. The video series, "Window On Collecting Art & Antiques" is written and presented by Paul J. Katrich. He has a lifelong passion for art and antiques, both as a collector and a fine artist. Paul Katrich started collecting antiques as a teenager, at the same time as becoming an accomplished painter. He then earned a degree in Art History and a Graduate Certificate in Archival Administration. For a few years Mr. Katrich owned a business restoring antiques, when he learned various techniques and inspirations of other artists, including methods to create ceramics. Finally in 1995 he decided to start a modern studio pottery, Katrich Studios, where he developed his own formulas and techniques for luster ceramics.
