In India starving elephants have destroyed houses and eaten farmers crops in a village in eastern city of Jharkhand. Lets take a look. This is all that some residents have left in Purnapania, a village about 30 kilometers from the state capital of Ranchi. Elephants have destroyed houses here, leaving these farmers in constant fear. [Tembu, Farmer]: "They ate our crops, entered our houses, ate flour. We screamed and there was no one around. Then my brother came with a fire torch and the elephant ran away." Elephants often attack the farmers for their newly harvested crops and homemade liquor. [Kamli, Farmer]: "It has broken our house and we have no other place to stay, where will I go with my children. All our belongings are out in the open. It has also eaten our crops." Farmers say they cannot afford the concrete homes that would keep out wild animals, snakes and insects.
