At 15, he quit school to become a professional musician. "But I never quit studying, though," he maintains. "In fact, I am still studying; it's endless. Music for me is not something to show off. It's my life. It's the shortest path to God. Playing is prayer for me." He went to Istanbul and at the age of 17 met the Mevlevi Dervishes, the ancient Sufi order of Turkey. He did not join the order, but felt profoundly influenced by their mystical approach to sound and to the spirit. Another, almost equally mystical influence would soon appear, from an unlikely source. The young Tekbilek became friend with flute and saxophone player named Ismet Siral, who had some unusual ideas about music theory. "He would say things like, let's play for birds, let's play for pictures." OFT says about Burhan Tonguch, his rhythm teacher: "He put the idea in my mind that everything is a rhythmic instrument. And everyone is a percussionist. Without the strike, there is no sound." Despite, or perhaps because of, this unconventional outlook, Faruk's skills were much in demand in the studios of Istanbul, and in 1971, at the age of 20, made his first brief tour of the United States with a Turkish classical/folk ensemble. Photographer Joe McNally visits Google's Mountain View, CA headquarters to discuss his book "The Moment It Clicks." McNally is an internationally acclaimed photographer, whose career has spanned 30 years and included assignments in over 50 countries. Although the majority of his career has been spent shooting for magazines such as Time, Sports Illustrated, and National Geographic, in the mid-1990s Joe served as Life magazine's staff photographer, the first one in 23 years. He also has shot commercial assignments for Target, Nikon, and Sony, to name a few. INXS - Need You Tonight (Need You Tonight (7'' Single) (1987)) (Version 2009) Written by: Michael Hutchence , Andrew Farriss Liner Notes: "1987 .We had finished touring "Listen Like Thieves" .We had started recording the next studio album ........"Kick". We took a short break. I had written several pieces of music at home in Sydney. Michael was living in Hong Kong at the time. We had decided to get together in Hong Kong and song write. I had packed my bag and called a taxi to take me to the international airport. While the taxi was approaching I thought I'd just mess around musically for a little while on my 8 track. I suddenly found myself playing the riff and chords that eventually became "Need You Tonight". The taxi driver was oblivious to my creative urges and reminded me that unless I got in the cab I was going to miss my flight. I grabbed the demo and a rough cassette copy of the song and got in the cab. Sunday 21st June. I flew to Hong Kong and drove to the Watson Estate where we were to spend the next 2 weeks writing. I met Michael and played him some of the music I had already written in Sydney. We listened to the different song ideas, including "Kick", "Need You Tonight" and others. As soon as he heard the music to "Need you Tonight" he immediately started writing the lyrics. Michael was always naturally gifted in his ability to articulate his thoughts poetically on paper.
